no - didn't realize this you make any difference... Would it not clear the lin bus if the battery was not disconnected??

Other than that, lets assume it doesn't change anything... 1. You replaced your switch? (This just fixed mine with same symptoms as you) 2. You disconnected your mirror motors (behind the triangle door trim on interior)? 3. Reset Battery 4. Still no changes?? Last edited by can0n4; 01-19-2012 at 11:57 AM. |

![]() Thanks looks like the reset made the difference - I now have power windows working but no mirrors... I assume if I connect them back up I can see which one is broken causing the fault. What is the actual part I need to order for the mirror - is it the motor or curcuit board?

You need the mirror motor. See post #12 in this thread and the ones before and after them which discuss the parts number. Make sure you trouble shoot which mirror it is, let me know if you pinpoint the actual mirror causing the problem, im curious to see if this method works. But make sure to do the battrery reset in between tests. After you plug a mirror in, youll, have to reset the battery again. Then again disconnect the battery and connect again to do the other side. I assume this would go for other electrical fixes as well not just bad switches for future reference to other x3 owners. Also , just thought of this, you may want to take the mirror apart from the outside and trace the wire to see where it goes, nothing can guarantee its the motor, but I think that is what it is based on what Ive read in this thread. 2005 x3 driver window switch stopped working.
Hello I know this is an old post but I recently bought a X3 and now I am having trouble with operating my windows and mirrors from the driver side. At one point I thought I wouldn't be able to get the driver side window in the closed position. Can anyone tell me exactly what their problem is and what parts I should order?
Thank You Jason |

problem could be either the swtich unit or one of the mirrors....
Disconect both mirrors when you have the battery disconnected. connect battery back up and try windows. If they work as expected you have a problem with one or both of your mirrors. They the problem is the same order a new switch. |

Thanks for the fast reply. This is a new vehicle to me so I don't exactly know how to disconnect the mirrors. I see where underneath the mirrors is a panel I can pry off and then it exposes the wiring, but I didn't see where to disconnect it. Also, it seems that everything works sometimes, and then sometimes nothing works. So I think its going to be difficult to tell what is bad or needs replacing. Also, if my window does get stuck in the down position, is there anything I can do to get it back up?
Thanks again! Jason |

to unplug the mirrors remove dorr panel from inside and then disconnect mirror plugs where the mirror bolts onto the door (from inside)
If the mirrors are the problem you can try to get the passenger window down and up from the drivers switch - you need to hold it down for ages!! if it goes down you can put it back up using passengers switch! |

Okay I will see if I can get the door panels off. I have never taken those of before either, so I hope I dont mess anything up! If there is any special technique please let me know. Also, I forgot to mention but all the other switches (passenger and rears) all work, its just the driver side that I am having issues with. All the other windows I can get up from using the other doors, just not driver side. I wonder if I should just order both mirror units and the master switch, that way I should have it all covered. Just not sure how expensive that would be. I bought this at a wholesale dealer for cheap...so I knew there might be some issues. After owing a Audi for my wife, I had to get another European car...nothing else drives the same.

I was able to get the door panels off but I was wondering if everything works sometimes from the master switch, wouldn't that be a sign of the switch not working properly all the time? When it is working the mirrors move just fine along with the windows. Makes me think the motors are okay but not the switch.
Thanks again Jason Poole |

I wish I could take you up on the offer, but I live in the states and its a left sided driver. To you does that sound lile it should be the switch? Like I said its all working fine now. My radio does cut out like every 30 mins though, then I have to turn it back on. I wonder if its related?

Hello again,
I was hoping I can use your expertise again. I think I am going to replace the mirror (actuator) that's just the motor correct? What's the best way to take apart one of those mirrors? Thank You Jason Poole |

Had the same problem until today...
I found out how to remove the master control unit or rocker switch for power windows and mirrors without removing the door panels: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/rep...00c152801b2896 Pulled out the unit, opened the unit and cleaned the print card. Mounted the unit back together. Now the mirrors and windows workes again :-)

Mine was similar, took the mirrors apart, the door panels, all of it. A new switch fixed it.

Use your orginal cover mate - if you can get a new one for a hundred bucks its has to be better to buy one in the US. Thanks for ask though |

to disconnect the mirrors, do i have to remove the door panels or can if be done by removing the black triangle on the inside where the mirrors attach ?
BTW all my windows work fine but neither mirror works, and no tilt. its not a fuse and I do have poert to the drivers door swicth.
