I have done my homework... I know exactly what I want and I am ready to make my move...
However, what might be good reasons to wait for the 2012 model? For example: - First year's issues will be resolved in second year? - Maybe more options will be available (like a 20-way power seat instead of the 18-way)? - If you do European Delivery and do it in March/April you are just 2-3 months before the 2012 model comes out? What do you think? |

Opinions will be on both sides of the fence. Some things are better with the next year, other things are deleted. Doubt they will bring back 20 way seats, that is part of decontenting, once decontented it is rarely brought back. You have to weigh the costs, you will pay more for a 2012 when it comes out than with a 2011 late in the season. For me, I want to drive the new car now, who knows what is going to happen tomorrow, I might as well enjoy it while I can for very little tradeoff (possible better reliability, model changes etc)

My experience buying new models has been they don't change much over the next 2-3 years. They might offer popular options as standard (e.g. auto transmission) next year. When I went to turn in a well-equipped new model (when initially leased) after 3 years, I looked around for any potential better newer models. I didn't see anything I liked better. All my options had become standard - that was about it. I ended up just buying my car after lease and was happy.
So, when it came to the F10, I wasn't shy about getting it now and outfitted it with important options for me, albeit a little pricey for now. But, Time equals Money. Pay now and enjoy the time with it. |

Only option I heard which will be included in 2012 is the hand free trunk opener...I don't know if it is worth the wait.

I would wait. You never know what problems may crop up in a new model, and, by the time the next years model is ready, they will either be fixed, or, the deficiencies will be out there and you can then decide if you still want it.
Had I known about the HPFP problem, I might have made another choice, for example, maybe going with the 550i instead.

Wait. The obvious general problems that can be fixed will be fixed. The "techs" at your dealership won't be using your car to practice on their first attempts at fixing stuff.

I normally wouldn't buy a new model design the first year out but from what I understand the F10 shares parts from the 7 series so I assume more bugs will have been worked out than from a completely new machine. Plus, I believe, there's not really any "new" technology in the F10. Most of it is fairly mature.

I would wait. One fewer F10 550 in MA

Always buy the latest model that you can wait for.

If you are not in a hurry it's a no brainer. Skip the first model year.

Sometimes they do bring things back. Depends. Just a silly example, but on the 2002-2005 7 series, luxury seats had massage in both driver and passenger seats. On 2006-2008, they removed it from the passenger seat. In 2009 forward, they brought it back.
You just never know.

It seemed the perfect combo. The power of an 8, the gas mileage of a 6, the 550i's better brakes, and so on. Will the new 535 still have HPFP problems? I don't know yet, but, in a year from now, it will be known.
