Dinan software/boost upgrade

I was wondering if anyone was looking into this or has done it. It sounds pretty awesome!!

The info is in the Dinan website. It's only a software upgrade. It costs $2999.00 plus a half hour of labor and fully warrantied by Dinan. You get about 96 bhp and 120 ft- lbs of torque give or take.

I don't believe they have any products for the 3.5d/s3.5i/5.0i...

They do for the XDrive 50i. Check out the website

Sounds like a much less expensive way to get almost X5 M - like performance. Does it void the BMW factory warranty?

I believe with Dinan, it is blessed by BMW and you retain full factory warranty... I think one of the reasons it costs so much more than some of the other tuner products out there.

You retain BMWs warranty plus fully warrantied by Dinan 4 yrs/50K miles

It is not blessed by BMW and the Dinan tune voids the factory powertrain warranty. Dinan's warranty takes over what BMW voids.

I'm considering it, yeah. It won't be this year though. I appreciate that they (Dinan) have been doing this for a while, seem to be very careful with their tunes, and stand behind them with a warranty, is enough for me to choose them.

Precisely correct.

While one may say "Eh, same thing...why quibble?" knowing there is a difference can be important in managing a warranty claim.

You do NOT want to be in a pissing match between Dinan and BMW, so it will be ideal to use a BMW dealer who is also a Dinan authorized dealer.

I've rarely heard stories of the Dinan warranty 'kicking in' to cover driveline failures-yes, for dinan part issues, but just haven't heard of dinan picking up a tranny after say a software upgrade.

Really the biggest benefit it that BMW knows that Dinan has the technical muscle to back up a claim, and the BMW dealer will usually just cover the claim under the BMW warranty. Had you rolled in with a 'no name brand' software update, no matter what the website said, BMW would just say "get lost".

I figure I will wait until the 400hp starts to feel like 300 and then I will pull the trigger. As for the BMW/DInan warranty, I would assume that galling through the cracks is not really an issue. I have not come across any "dinan/BMW both screwed me" and I have been on the forums since 05

If you check out he X6 posts, there are a few people around the NY area that have it done.

One guy with an X6M over did it and broke an half shaft, probably doing burnouts.
Interesting that his weak point was the half shaft, and not the trannie.
goes to show that these 6 speed trannies are almost bullit proof, and can take a lot of torque.

I just registered on this site, this is my first exposure to this forum.

I had the Dinan software upgrade done on my '11 X5 5.0i. It bumps up power to 495 hp.
It is pretty darn fast! The other day a fellow in a Cayenne S wanted to show off at a stop light. I'm guessing he was assuming that my car was a stock 4.8. Little did he know...

It makes my X5 4.4i (which I passed along to my daughter) feel downright sluggish.

Yet as far as the fun factor it still can't rival riding my motorcycle ('08 BMW R 1200 GS), which I commute on every day, rain or shine, year'round.

I haven't seen anything on the site for the 35. That would be a boost to almost 400hp. would b nice

tin, be happy that wasn't a spotty kid in a primed up K5 Blazer with a shaker hood and funny smelling exhaust!
