The M Coupe is one of the prettiest E36 body types ever. You will need to let it grow on you

I don't think it will ever grow on me, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Closer to my price range... And the swap bumps it up to 134hp 130ft lbs, in a car that weighs less than 1800lbs

I know nothing about bikes, but ducatis are my favorite. Just because I never see them and they sound like no other

I've never been on a duc as nice as that, but I have been on an older 999 (very ugly), 748s, and a 748 with an 853 big bore kit. All were great, but the 848 is probably my favorite, followed very closely by the 1098..

I love Ducatis as much as the next guy, but the thought of owning anything Italian gives me the cold sweats. Are they a nightmare to maintain?

People say BMW's are a nightmare to maintain. I'm sure it'd change if you actually got into them

Oh good lord yes! The older 748/916/996 are absolute nightmares (the 998 gets an honorable mention, its not quite as bad, but still pretty terrible). Rockers chip/flake, electricals rarely work an entire season, bolts literally shake themselves loose in the engine. They require valve and belt jobs every 5k miles, if you don't, you may as well buy a new motor right away. The only reason people own these is because they A) don't know what to expect or B) have deep pockets and are willing to shell out big bucks to own such a beautiful bike.

The 749/999 are ugly as hell, and slightly more reliable. valve/belts due every 7500 miles.

The 848/1098/1198 are beautiful bikes, and the maintenece schedule is either 10.5 or 12k miles, which is pretty close to what most japanese bikes recommend. Only difference is, Ducati is required, not recommended.

Yeah, it seems that most Ducatis I see sound like they have a can of bolts rattling around inside the motor, which I understand is their "signature" sound, whatever that means. I take it to mean that the person riding it isn't up do date on maintenance.

That sound is actually the dry clutch
A lot of owners actually cut holes in the clutch cover for a couple reasons: it sounds "better", keeps the bike cooler (almost 10* cooler), and it extends the life of the clutch by letting all those dust particles free

I like Dakar, but I'd like it better if it were a deeper yellow. It's too close to butternut yellow to me.

Wonder if that's an auto or stick? (or did I miss that?)

in an ideal world i'd have enough loot to buy a dog from a breeder....but even if i did i'd really like to rescue a dog NMW. i already have a pure bred dog in the house (my sisters pomeranian), and he's the happiest dog ever.....just needs some company.....maybe a nice lab mix.
