I've got it figured out

1. Lowball owner
2. Buy car for cheap
3. Pull off parts
4. Use parts that you need, sell ones you don't need
5. Profit

Optional but inevitable last step:

6. Immediately spend all profit on upgrades for your car

Eh, you won't get anything for the body unless you can get it to the junkyard yourself. But you will definitely make money on lots of other parts.

Offer $350 and go from there. Explain how the head has to be redone, new gaskets, labor and stuff adds up to almost $1k to fix the car, and bluebook for the car is only around 1300.

If he says no, let him sit on it for a week, go back and offer 400.

You can't tell I've done this before, can you?

Selling your PS3 to buy that car? If your brother is into cars, see if he'll split the cost and you could split the profits. Trust me, it'll be worth it.

Remember that silver car that everybody said didn't seem to be worth it? I've profited $1100 so far, and I've used some parts for my car and I haven't sold the LSD yet.

I'm probably going to be using the one out of the parts car, but I'll be selling my 3.45 small-case LSD soon enough. But you won't want that if you're going turbo.

so what is the difference in application between the large ans small cases?? large cases were for m3's??

are the flanges different, or interchangeable to fit the large unit in the place of the small unit without changing over the driveshaft and axles??

i ask because this is new to me. i never realized there were different case 'sizes'.

I'm pretty sure there were three size cases

small case- came in 318, smaller axles

medium case- came in 325, 323, 328, different larger axles

large case (maybe same size as medium, but stronger )- came in M3, bigger axles (but maybe compatible with medium case axles), and I think it has a different flange

That's what I've gathered so far.

I was close. Doesn't the M3 medium-case have bigger axles, and a six-bolt input flange?

Input flange is swappable with ease.

Not sure on axles though.

Axles are larger, but can swap them with ease to as long as not a small case diff from a 318.

My bad you are correct:
-The Medium case axles will not fit the 318 diff, b/c when My 318 axle broke on my diff I put in the 328 diff I had b/c I had axles to fit it, and attempted to switch the side flanges from the 328 diff into the 318 diff and they would not click in all the way and left a gap, thats why I had to use the 328 diff w/2.93's vs the 318 diff ....now I have the 3.23 lsd cha ching.
