No time like the present to learn. I learned by purchasing a 318 with a stick 145 miles from home and driving it back.

Yeah, stick is easy to learn. You'll pick it up quick. I taught myself, with a bouncing idle, no less.

The parts for the swap aren't too bed, CJ there and I both have complete swap kits for $around $500, unfortunately they are for 318s and 325s (Getrag transmission) so they might not fair so well in the 328, though with my current level of mods I'm probably pushing hard on stock 328 numbers and so far so good, but I also figure BMW had good reason for putting ZF trannys in the 328s. Any way, the point I was trying to make is that parts shouldn't run too far over $700-800 and if you're handy with a wrench you could probably do the swap in a weekend.

It would probably take more than a weekend if he hasn't done any big projects on a BMW before. But I'm sure the Getrag would hold up fine to a 328. Matt uses one and he has what, 300whp?

Sure the Getrag will hold up to higher power, but not for as long. Getrags are plenty durable, just not as durable as the ZFs.

hmmm well....maybe if the conversion kit was for the 328....and it came with a writeup =) cause the most ive done is just sound systems on a car. my dad owns a sound shop so i know about that. but engine stuff is unexplored territory.

Meh, if you're going to go through the trouble of stuffing a V8 into an E36, you should just go with an LS. Non-M BMW V8s aren't not that special IMO.
