Not sure what is wrong with it... The posting is confusing.

Seems pretty cheap. I wonder why he asks for $1500, says "no lowballs", then he says he'll take it to get scrapped by next week if not sold. He's not gonna get more than a few hundred if he scraps it...

Good idea, thanks. I'm going to call and get more specs, but if its a clean title it looks worth the price. KBB for Very Good for it was $3100 - the front bumper

Yeah, it doesn't make sense. 95% of people who sell stuff on Craigslist have the logical reasoning skills of a fruit fly.

Ok, so I found a 240 wagon that I like, but the price is too high. Here's the ad:

http://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/3086684153.html

I contacted the seller and politely explained that the KBB in very good condition is only 1250 and asked if he was negotiable with the price, but he responded with this:

"Bought it for $1300, put new tires on it, alignment, couple garage visits to work out the bugs...I'll drive it into the ground before I lose money on it. Volvo makes the 300k mile badge for a reason. "

Obviously, cars don't gain value with repairs, so his reasoning is flawed, but how do I negotiate him down some? I wish more 240 wagons were on CL, but all the ones for $1k-ish are pretty beat down.

Oh well. Another one will pop up eventually.

I sold the Mercedes this morning. $650. Just about broke even on it. At least I learned some stuff about old diesels.

you could at least check it out and kick the tires (point out every little thing wrong with it). See where it gets you, I did it with my e36 and ended up getting the car $500 less than the guy was asking for it, which was already a deal. If nothing else you got to test drive it.

Yeah, I've done that whole thing before, but this guy seems unusually stubborn, and it's too far just to take the trip.

What about this one? I was leaning towards a 328i for the lower-rpm torque & hp and that they're a bit newer.
But this looks pretty good for only $2k. The seats though..

Looks like that one had front end damage. The drivers side front fender is a different shade of gray than the doors, and the hood sits all cockeyed over the grills.

I'll bet it's a salvage title.

Yeah, it would need a few grand to make it pretty and reliable, but still so tempting.

But I suppose if I had a few grand, I could just put a turbo in my car.

Heck, $2k for a reliable 240 with new tires and other work is a small price to pay. Plus, there becomes a point when KBB is irrelevant. We all know that people will pay more money than KBB recommends for a well maintained BMW. That Volvo seems like a solid choice to me.

Yeah, you're right. It's definitely worth around that price, but I don't have the much, unfortunately. I will by the end of the summer, though, so I might just have to wait until then.

It's on the way to Jen's, so I might go test drive it because I've never driven a 240 before.
