I must not tell my mom it's not a 92

If its a 318, doesn't it make insurance a bit cheaper?

I think you're underestimating the extend of the damage. You can't bondo that up and make it look nice. Best bet would probably be welding in a new quarter panel, which is waaaaay more work that it's worth for a mediocre 318.

I've always wanted to learn how to weld and paint a car so if he's not asking to much I'm going for it. I talked over the phone real nice guy

Pretty much a mirror image of my car when I bought it. Hopefully it's still available.

Yes, my plan is outlined in the OT thread. Buy, strip, paint in awesome color, swap everything over.

Lol. Totally worth it as long as there is $3000 worth of gold under the spare tire.

The guy called me and still has it. Says that it has virtually no rust since it's from California, and barely any dings. The body is in great shape, apparently. It might be a shame to paint over. Hopefully going to get it this weekend.

Only thing is that it's been sitting for 4 years. Shouldn't really be a problem though, since I'm only using the body. Might have to clean the gas tank/lines?

good rule of thumb from my auto body days is no bondo over a 1/4" thick

Looks like a great value for a swap, but be extra sure there is no rust underneath that car. The owner mentions a cracked/collapsed spring, and that sort of thing doesn't usually happen on rust free cars.

Yeah, 1/4" of bondo seems like a lot to me. People do all sorts of crazy things, but in my view, bondo should never be used for anything more than a millimeter or two - basically just to make flat surfaces 100% even.

Yeah, I'll definitely make sure. Cracked spring does raise suspicion of rust.
