If he's as unrealistic on the price of the car as he is on the wheels and tires, it won't sell.

Ah i just noticed it was 1500 for the wheels. I misunderstood. I thought it was for the car itself

Well the guy from Winchester, VA didn't come up to see the car. So he flaked out. The owner emailed me last night and said the M-Tech is mine. I tried talking him down from $2750, but he was firm since he said he would be parting the car out if he went lower.

Anyways, couldn't have come at a better time. Got a 325 engine waiting to be picked up for $300. Has 110K miles on it, compression ratio is 185 185 180 190 185 190. Is that good for a 2.5 liter with 110K on it? Or should I just look for a 328i and yank the engine out and stick it in this car? The donor for a 2.8 engine would be here: http://annapolis.craigslist.org/cto/3560834954.html <- The guy wants $800 for this wrecker, but I tow it at my expense.

those compression numbers are good, but if it's worth the extra work to get the 2.8 you'll get a few extra torquez and horsie power. I'd grab the M50 for 300 rather than buy a heap for 800 and need to extract an engine and then get rid of the body.

Well I was thinking of extracting everything I could, then sell the parts and then crush the rest of the car. So I figured for $500 more with a chance to make more money on top of it, it would be worth a shot.

Was trying to think with a chop-shop mentality, with a wrecked car.

I'd stick with the M50 that's already out also. No need to add more work to an engine swap. But I'm really really lazy.

Congrats on the M-Tech though it's a cool car.

Haha, well I have never removed or replaced an engine before in these cars, so I figured that I'd use the wrecked 328 as a reference. I am a major tinkerer hence why I love older German cars like ours. Not afraid of the work since once everything works, you get a major euphoric feeling afterwards, almost beats the feeling after sex. Like for example, the 96 318i I have... when I replaced the valve cover gasket, water pump, radiator, hoses, expansion tank, spark plugs, put in a heli coil in one of the slots for the valve cover bolts (previous owner stripped it), brakes, rotors, cross brace (which I will pull off for the 325is M-Tech if the car doesn't have it on there), control arm bushings in the front, trailing arm bushings in the rear, and the list goes on, I had way too much fun. The best part was resetting the codes through the scanner and seeing nothing come back, not even any pending codes after 5 or 6 cycles.

But in terms of logistics... yeah the 328i would be a pain. But if I buy it for $800, I can sell the doors, rear bumper, a lot of the interior bits, differential, and some other odds and ends and make the money back. Then sell the car to a junk yard and make a couple more bucks. I'd easily get the money back, minus the towing and storing the car somewhere while chopping it up to sell and yank the engine out to put into the M-Tech.

I dunno, the more I give this thought, the more I am starting to side with you guys about just getting the 93 325i engine.

I dunno, those DS1's look damn sexy on the red car. I'm a major sucker for them. I have a set of contours that I should probably get rid of one day. But then again, they'll serve as the winter set on the 325is M-tech.
