Question Indicator Lamp for ASC+T/DSC

Hello,

Yesterday, I drove my 2001 325i wagon in the rain for the first time. (I have had the car for less than two weeks.) Soon after I started the car, I saw the Indicator lamp for ASC+T/DSC* flash very briefly. I also noticed that the car "slipped" (didn't start smoothly) when I stepped on the gas after coming to a complete stop. The car did nothing unusual during the rest of my brief trip across town.

Today the weather is dry and I the car seems fine with nothing unusual lighting up.

Do I need to worry?

Thanks,

Twizzle

If the light illuminated during your launch from a stop then it was simply that you gave it enough gas to break traction, therefore engaging the DSC...simply said, it was doing what it was designed to do; sensed a wheel slip and activated. The light illuminating is just the car telling you that it was in using the DSC at that moment.

NOTE: While I'm here, did you know you can press and hold the DSC button on your center console and when the dash light and yellow brake light illuminate you have effectively disabled the traction control. To re-activate it, simply press the button again and the lights dissapear...do what you will with this knowledge

Sounds like you should read through the Owners manual to help you understand the features of your new car.

If you don't have one, you can download it here: http://www.linquist.net/motorsports/bmw/3manuals/

Jmanscotch -

Thanks - your note was very helpful! I am accustomed to seeing dollar signs whenever I see a strange light flash on my dash. It's good to know that what happened was normal!

Best,
Twizzle

Hello,

My car 1998/323is the ASC+T/DSC illuminated. Try to de-activate by pushing (down) and hold the button but the light stay illuminated and the system did not disengage. I read other topics to start the car down without pressing gas pedal and keep running for at least 8-10 minutes and shut it off. Do you guys have any other ideas how to troubleshoot this issue. i do appreciate for your input. Thank you.

You do realize, that light is supposed to be on exactly when system is de-activated?
You might have same issue like many of us did before, more info in that link.

Except that now i realize... yours is e36 isn't it?
ASC system is not very different from early e46 though.

Your car might be an E36,not an E46. Post a pic or 2 if you`re not sure....

In which case, you should be posting this to the E36 Forum, not here....
