Head-Up Display

I'm curious about the head-up display on the new X3 - and thought anyone that has been lucky enough to have an in-person look at one, could help us out...

Regarding the head-up display...

I've seen many different images of the BMW head-up display, and some demonstration videos online allowing people to configure it how they want it. Some had a nice color tachometer, gear selection indicator, as well as the speed. Do we know if the tachometer "view" will be something you can view on the 2011 X3 hud? Is it multi color, as well?

I'm curious if adding any options (besides the obvious navigation) alters the options that can be displayed, i.e. Sport Activity Package or M Sport Package.

Lastly, I'm curious if there is a dedicated button to turn this feature on, and where it is located.

Even for the other vehicles that have this option - the amount of marketing information seems limited.

Thanks in advance for any information!

Now that the "build your own" information is on the USA site, it lists that the head-up display can do "check control data". Can anyone tell me what this specifically means? TIA.

Go to your BMW dealer, find a current X5/X6 with HUD, play with it. You will see same exact stuff as on new X3. "Check control data" means that you will see (on HUD) same error/warning messages that iDrive will display when something is wrong with car. The color tach + gear selection on HUD is reserved for M-series vehicles (M3,X5M, etc.).

If you wear polarized sunglasses they will remove the HUD from your windshield! Might have to dump the Oakleys for driving.
