Extended Warranty worth it for 2007 335i?

I have a 2007 335i coming up on 40,000 miles on it, still under warranty until 50,000 miles but I heard that while under 40,000 miles I can extend the warranty for 2 additional years up to 100,000 miles. Anyone have ideas on if this is worth it or not? Also, any good places to get the warranty from? I've gotten a lot of notices in the mail from different places offering this so I assume they are all the same thing but different prices?

Thanks!!!

So it sounds like you average about 12,000 miles per year which would give you 24,000 additional miles warranty coverage - unless your driving habits radically change over the next two years. I don't think that would make it worth the cost, especially since BMW is aleady covering the HPFP out to 10 yrs/120,000 miles.

Agree. I'm in the same boat and have decided that it isn't worth the money.

would you rather be stuck saying "man, i wish i would have saved that $3,000 and not bought this warranty" or "man, i wish i would have spent that $3,000 and not had to spend the $10,000 i have spent on repairs".

BOOM!!! 2 cents.

BEWARE of those warranty letters you are getting in the mail. most of them are scams to say the least. go to your local dealership and get a BMW warranty. not some hillbilly bob warranty.

Question

I'm in the same boat, but with an '07 335xi. I know the list price is around $4500 for the PT 84M/100k plan. What are people generally paying? I see different dealers offering discounts of 10-20%, but that's just my guesses from what people *say* they paid and the coverage they got.

Thanks,
Bo

I dont get the price differences I've heard. Last time i was at the dealership i was quoted just over 2,000. I remember asking at a differnet dealership being quoted nearly 3,000 if i remember correctly. I'm in the same boat though, either sell this and try to buy an 09, or hope that nothing goes wrong. Worse off(or better off), my car is CPO, so a major overlap if i were to get the extended full service.

A couple years ago, there was a dealer offering a pretty decent discount on the extended warranty on this forum. I'm in the same boat and I am wondering if that dealer still exists.

Why are you even asking about the extended warranty if your car is CPO?

He may be referring to extended maintenance (also a lousy deal, IMHO). But this thread is about an extended warranty.

Agreed, that's a different discussion.

I bought the "extended maintenance" warranty, what a ripoff. The only thing it REALLY covers are standard maintenance replacements. Things like wiper blades and cabin filters and possible brakes (but they're really slimy on these).
Things that are not covered CEL resets (that will be $220 sir), or anything they consider to be something that needs to be fixed, not maintained and they dictate the terms.

Save your money, I sure wish I did.

P.S. I had a friend that looked into the cost for "Full Coverage", the total was around $5500.

It seems like the break-even on extended maintenance is 2 (4 wheel) brake jobs, including rotors during the maintenance period. Might make sense if the car is being used as a taxicab.

How are your /6 & /5 holding up? I have very fond memories of cross country trips on my R75/6 back in the late 70's - although I'm also quite happy with the R1200RT I now have.

For BMW cpo you shouldn't be paying more then abotu 2200 (I believe).
If it's not BMW cpo it better be a LOT cheaper then that.
Read the terms carefully and do a lot of checking (google, these forums, etc) about a specific company before signing that money over. Also use your CC (e.g. AMEX) if possible for additional protection

@BLT - Extended Maintenance is NOT Extended Warranty...two completely different products doing two completely different things.

EDIT: BY reading the terms - if you have a lawyer friend ask him to read them

What did you expect? "Extended maintenance" is not a warranty, it's just a way to extend your 4yr/50k "free" maintenance plan i.e. change oil, filters, brakes (rotors and pads), wipers, etc per the CBS system. They don't need to dictate any terms, it's pretty clear what the maintenance plan covers (and nothing else). If the salesmen duped you into thinking it covered more, shame on them and on you too. There's no reason to have believed extended maint covers more than it does.

It's not an extension of your warranty. If you want to own a BMW (or any car for that matter) beyond the new car warranty, either purchase an extended warranty or be prepared to pay for repairs out of pocket as needed. Maintenance is not equal to repairs
