Sort of. I have found it to be "chunky," as if min to max is actually made up of 4-5 segments, e.g., it jumps from "max" to showing about 1/5 down.

I had to laugh at this tread because I just had to put a quart in a loaner. Yeap you read it right. they dropped a loaner at my house and picked up my X5 for changing the left parking light. it was a 11 328i with 9K miles on it. Anyway I learned early that BMWs so I always have Mobil 1 synthetic around (I buy it by the case from Costgo) so I added a quart. yes BMWs burn oil and two quarts in 9k miles sounds just about right to me.

My 2011 5.0 showed the oil gradually going down over time. I actually told the wife that she needed to pay attention to the oil light because I saw the oil was low

I did not think that they would dumb down the indicator for the 2011 model.

Interesting. I have a 2010 35d and my indicator definitely moves in "chunks," i.e., it shows exactly on Max for about 3,000 miles, then drops about 1/5 of the way to MIN, and stays at the same level for another 3,000 or more before dropping another "chunk."

Maybe I have a bad sensor or something. I'll have to mention it at the next service and ask then to check it out.

Well the truck doesn't even have a coolant gauge....

And I'm really not sure the dealer gave me accurate info. As soon as you said yours was a 2010 I thought they were correct
As I originally said, my level hasen't moved off of full for 12000 miles!

I really think I have either:
1. A super engine
2. A defective gauge

Dealer says they have seen motors that use no oil. I think the guy I spoke to is clueless...

Mine may move in increments. I don't look at very often.
