Now that information on the US-market M sport package is becoming available (see bimmerpost) I think I can rest my case, ladies and gentlemen of the jury: The U.S. M sport package will apparently be largely the same as the Euro M sport package, but includes "sport suspension delete." In other words, the US M sport does not get the sport suspension. Those looking for a suspension upgrade are welcome to spec the expensive electronic suspension upgrade.

The same source states that the M sport will come with a sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, rather than the thick-rimmed M wheel I like so much.

I test drove the X3 last week and thought BMW did an excellent job on tuning the chasis that gives great ride/handling. I think it's the best in its class in both ride and handling.

I do lament: 1) Lack of spare tire, 2) no 2WD

Great news is that the 2.0t will be coming to US which will produce 240 hp/260 lb/ft @ 1300 rpm and be available in X3 and new 3 series. I wish it would be in the form of 2WD.

Well, seeing as how the US only gets ATs, it would have to include paddle shifters.............

Americans don't like sport suspension. They just want the looks and seats.

Perhaps because the roads here are so bad.

It never stopped me to get anything ''sport'', and roads are really bad in Québec.

SoCal roads not in good condition also. My previous manager had E90 325i with SP - his pregnant wife can't stand that car - she felt every bump on the road.

I regularly drive in the Southeast (VA, NC mostly) and although there are some aging and construction spots, the vast majority of mileage is smooth even at autobahn-ish speeds. I-85 needs serious work southbound in Dinwiddie and I-95 is a disaster in places due to heavy truck traffic, but other primary highways are nice.
