Theoretically, yes...still have my fingers crossed that this part is problem free and has actually worked. So far so great.

I agree on both. The vibrations are felt through the chassis and steering and a valve block replacement can likely fix the issue since it's now three out of four cars that has been successfully fixed this way. Mine is the only one that still has the grinding but mine is also different in the sense that I had a full ars failure due to a pump break down that contaminated the system with metal shavings. The dealer suspects that some shavings are still present and causes new (good) valve blocks to malfunction.

Yes, but I think of the sound to be more like bad water lines in a house that vibrate and shake everything their connected to. I haven't put my car in the shop yet hoping for a service bulletin to come out after the initial cases have been reviewed in depth. I will soon though if for no other reason as I'm seeing high oil usage and unusual wear patters in my front right brake disc, but that's another topic.

I have intermittent grinding the same as the rest of you. I did Euro pick up and have had my 535 for two weeks. I went to the dealership and on the one day I went, I couldn't replicate this annoyance!! I am heading back next week or after the holidays. Everyone on this thread has been really helpful and I have forwarded the info to the service manager. Thanks so much for keeping us posted. I will do the same after I take the car in.

I'm starting to wonder if cars with the grinding noise really are in minority? What are the odds that so many of the relatively limited number of ars equipped F10 owners that reads bimmerfest have this issue?

I think this is going to be more and more common with the newer builds. Does anyone know if there is damage being done to the cars if they are being driven with the occasional grind sound/vibration?

Keep the updates coming!!!

Im actually bringing my car in now. My service guy ordered some brackets and wants to try something. Not sure what. Ill give him a shot and give it a few days. If I hear it again I will be putting my request in for the Valve Black.

Tis the busy season and unfortunately my car is pretty low on my to do list!

Good stuff Nelquan, hope your issue is resolved for good.

Well, I picked up the car last night and I might have to be added to the list of folks with the grinding problem. I didn't hear anything on my test drive with the saleman, my drive home last night, or my morning commute (40 miles total), but at lunch today doing some errands I think I heard a split second grinding/farting noise coming from the front at the least two times while making slow right hand turns in parking lots. Of course, I might be imagining it because I have been listening for it, and it hasn't happened every time I make a slow turn. I will continue to listen for it...and hope it was just my imagination.

Other than that, I am thrilled with the car.

It's frustrating that so many people are unable to replicate the noise/grinding when test driving before the paperwork is signed despite specifically trying to diagnose the issue upfront, only to find out at home that they have the problem half a day later (or sometimes less). Equally frustrating is that the problem continues to be coming up in newer builds.

Just a concerned individual anxiously awaiting delivery (early January).

My grinding is both heard and felt. I noticed it was much worse last weekend in the rain. Took mine to the dealer 2 days ago and they know about the blog info, but seemed skeptical. They have faith that the fix will disseminate through the correct channels at BMW. I'm with them for now, but am also researching the lemon law for my state.

It's colder and wetter today and I noticed it more. Might also be I'm driving more slowly and this seems to be a slow speed phenomenon. I'll try and pay more attention to see if the wet/cold is a factor for me.

Since I can't come up with a good theory on why the noise should be more frequent in cold weather + rain I have not mentioned it but I believe I have noticed it. Cold weather seems to make little or no difference by itself but with rain it seems to make it worse. More intriguing is that it was cold and sunny in Seattle today and I did not hear the noise in the morning but I hand washed the car at lunch time and after that I did observe the noise a couple of times. I'm still not sure if moisture really does make a difference or if it's just a coincidence.

My idea for emailing ABC News was not that they would rush out and do a story about the problem but if anything, hopefully they called BMW to let BMW know they were aware of the issue. If that in turn made BMW assign more brainpower to research the issue, that would be great.

Solstice started this thread almost two months ago back in October and hopefully now a fix has been found with the valve block replacement. I, and I'm sure many others here, are crossing our fingers that Nelquan's valve block replacement does the trick and we can bring our cars in to get it fixed as well.

I have had this grinding noise since the moment I pulled out of the dealership parking lot on 12/4 (sure wish I read this thread BEFORE I picked up the car). After 400 miles i cannot pinpoint exactly the circumstances that cause the grinding noise to happen. Hot/cold days, dry/wet days, full/empty tank of gas, 1/2/3 people in the car... No repeatable pattern; it just happens when it does.

I was supposed to bring my car to the dealership this past week but I canceled the appointment because I didn't want my car turned into a "guinea pig". The noise is annoying (and a bit unsettling) but until BMW finds the solution, I'll hold off on bringing my car in; hope I am not pkaying Russian roulette here by driving the car with this issue.

Thanks again to all the posters here for sharing your stories. I love this car. It looks great and is a blast to drive. I look forward to the day we can all drive our respective car with the peace of mind that this issue is resolved.

Happy Holidays to all!

Is this really only a slow speed phenomenon, or is the road noise at higher speeds masking the noise (and the vibraiton somehow)? Do you guys have any take? I am asking because it does not quite make sense for it to be a slow speed thing only (or do you guys have a theory that would explain it?).

I agree with you that the issue happening only at slow speeds doesn't make sense but for me and as others here have reported, the noise and vibration occurs when making a left or right turn at slow speeds. For me, the problem does not happen all the time and frankly I make more turns without this issue occurring than with the issue occurring. Regardless, it is frustrating that a brand new car should have this type of problem from the moment I left the dealership. Looking forward to BMW finding a resolution to the problem, hopefully soon!!!

Day 6 with the valve block fix...still no noticeable noise. Awesoeme!

I will continue the updates however (at least for the next week)...after all that I've been through, I still anticipate it, but honestly, it's been fine so far.

Nelquan,

When you say no noticeable noise, does that mean there still is some noise but much better than before, or there is no noise whatsoever?

So Solstice, when does your car go back in for repair?

The next step for my car according my dealer is a full ars replacement, every single component. It's a large, intrusive and expensive undertaking so I'm first waiting for bmwna's response to the case I opened regarding a potential settlement/replacement. I'm tired of driving around in loaners and I have little faith in that my car will be fully fixed.
