Can you get a towing package on the M-X5??

All that power in an SUV and no mention of a towing package. Not for a ten ton boat but how about 3500 pounds for a utility trailer?? My wife's minivan can do that!

You can by the hitch for the X5M and have it installed. The only issue is it will have to be done by a third party (not BMW) and the rear bumper will have to be trimmed and there is no finishing strip. I read a thread on xoutpost.com which a x5m owner had a body shop cut out the bumper for the hitch to fit. Looked pretty good.

Thanks,

Any mechanical issues with the suspension?

Without a mention from BMW you don't know what kind of tongue weight the suspension could handle!

I know that the rear suspension is a bit different on the X5M(which is why thirdrow is not an option) but I don't se any reason why it would cause a problem. You may want to call BMW to see if they have any concerns.

Mein Auto: X5M
Hello, I am a new owner of a 2010 X5M and this is my first post. I just had the Austin, Tx dealer install a BMW hitch on my X5M. They will also need to reprogram the car. I learned the needed part numbers from another forum and they are as follows:

Trailer Hitch Kit (PN: 71 60 2 156 525)
Trim Piece Kit X5M (PN: 71 60 2 185 556)
Blind rivet (Qty 8) (PN: 07 14 9 140 786)

My understanding is a tongue weight of 600 lbs & tow weight of 6,000 lbs. I believe you may have tire wear issues on the higher end of the range but this just based on another post I read somewhere. I have towed a small trailer with mine and other than the rattle of my hitch inside the receiver all went well.
