I am very discomforted with a discussion of pirated software. I wonder how many participants here would like reading procedures and sources for stealing your intellectual property.

How do you like the rest of the new disc vs. your old one? Are the graphics the same or did you notice any improvement? I am interested if there are improvements beyond the street updates.

Functionality and graphics are the same as the 2009.2 version. I noticed that when shutting down the car with the nav screen on it will revert to map in direction of travel when starting up again. When PDC is on it will first go to the PDC screen and then when going forward switch to the map screen. I am pretty sure it did not do that before automatically.

I agree. But Google "BMW 2011 navigation update" or similar and check the result. I ended up buying a used set on eBay to save a few bucks and in turn sold my 2009.2 OEM disc there as well.

What's an update? Its either the nav dvd year or not right? There is some incremental update? How is that done? Don't tell me you downloaded something off the internet on a flash drive and then popped it into the bmw usb port and updated your bmw navigation.

I'm having loading issues going from the 2007 disc to the 2011 two disk set. If I load the East Coast side, it spins and let's me enter an address, but tells me navigation is not possible from my location. When I load the West Coast one (the one I need), the screen states please insert navigation DVD and just sits there. There is no spinning of the DVD, just silence. I have done the requisite waiting time before each insertion also with no luck.

Is this a software issue with the DVD drive that can be updated at the Dealer? Any help would be appreciated. BTW this is in my wife's 2007 e60 550i.

I was having this issue and did the following:

Burn the disk at 2x for the dvd
make sure you use dvd-r
and you should try to download the 2010 disks from the google search posted above, worked like a charm!

Sorry, forgot to say that these are the OEM BMW disks, not pirated ones.

Are the disc's scratched? So lets go through this step by step. You have the original 2007 disc's for the 07 550i. You put them in and it just doesn't seem to work.

Questions:

Do you have iDrive in the car?
Are the disks that you have the Professional or the High version?

The 2007 disc works great. The 2011 one doesn't. I have iDrive and it is the correct version for her car. I also just upgraded my e39 M5, so I know her version is correct.

I already sent back one set to TeleAtlas thinking that they were defective, but the replacement set is doing the same thing.

Hi Folks.

I got my 535i with navigation and do not have the DVD with me. Its 2009 ver, I bought this car new in 2010 Aug. Shouldn't i get the DVD from the dealer? Also I saw threads here that we can download updates on internet! is that model specific ?

2009 nav version on a 2010 MY is most likely correct. There is a new 2011 version available. No legal downloads available. Whatever you can download is pirated material; same goes for what is cheaply offered on eBay which are mostly burned "backup copies". If the recorded side looks purplish and the front is shiny, you have a pirated disc. How does your OEM 2009 disc look?

UPDATE-According to Dealer, my Nav drive is one of the "quirky" ones that won't read the new discs. They say the nav drive needs replacing. Of course, I'm out of OEM warranty by three months and my CPO doesn't cover it.

Trying to work out a solution with Dealer. Stay tuned...........

Unfortunately I did not get my Nav DVD with my new car. So am following up with my dealer to get one.

Also do you know if there is a setting that needs to set in order get the nav spit out street names (like all street names not just the major ones) or its the way BMW nav system works. Mine mostly speaks only to major roads / freeway names.

No, only announces major road names on my 2008 with 2011 version DVD. I actually don't mind that part. The nav in my car is pretty basic but nicely integrated. I think a major upgrade came with the 2010 models.

What I now do is use my screen in split content mode. The main screen shows the map and the marker in the direction of my travel, while the split screen shows the upcoming turn or exit with its name on it. Thats good enough, though I am thinking most Jap models have the voice announcement for even the streets I thought these being more expensive should have had as well.

By 2010 models did you means the new 2011 5 series? if so what are the nav upgrades they get?

The voice commands only annoy me, that was one of the first things I turned off on my car. I also use the secondary screen to show directions.

That is what I do as well.

MY 2010 got the HDD iDrive which added many features to navigation. I can't recall the details, but the BMW website has more information.

2011 Nav DVD

Thank you for the message. My 2010 car is supposed to have HDD that works with iDrive. I did not have much time this weekend at the dealership. But what I learn't in short visit was that the nav software comes pre-loaded on the HDD and thus there is no disc/DVD (according to sales rep, I need to check with the service folks though). But I still can't believe they don't provide the actual DVD disc! what if the software gets corrupted and I need to re-load and stuff. Anyways, still need to get to the service folks and ask that question
