Yes- I turned the system off and reset it for the 5 minutes. After seeing the Insert DVD, I re-inserted the Eastern half and it worked fine. So I have a hard time believing it is the head unit that is broken.

Some service advisor are just plain useless! Like I asked a guy one time why my car has lots of squeaks and he's like all BMW as they age tend to squeak and rattle more. My car only had 35k at the time. I brought it to another dealership and they fixed the problem with some silicon coating stuff...problem solved! Never going back to that lazy retard again! So try out another dealership if you don't think it's the disc. Or try to borrow someone's disc and try it out. I'm in Houston so if you ever down here...I'll let you try out my dvd and see if it works.

Yes! Thank goodness all of those red light cams are gone! Cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians everywhere in Houston are rejoicing!

2007 e60 with 2011 nav disks -- 1 of 2 works!

It is does look like the DVD could have some scratches on it. My bigger concern though is when I call BMW, they say that it is a fluke thing where some BMWs accept the eastern DVD but not the western and you have to replace the head unit. Has anyone else had this issue/offer any suggestions? I just find it hard to believe that the eastern DVD does work but the western does not. As I'm out warranty, I'm trying to find a fix other than having BMW replace the head unit.
Hey Snoble21,

This is just too freaky! I just bought a 2007 550i, missing the nav disks. Got the official release 2011 2 disk "Professional" set, and wouldn't you know it, the WESTERN disk works, but not the eastern! (Eastern gets "insert nav disk", no amount of restarts, waiting while off, etc. will help) I live in Cary NC, so this is my home disk just like yours, and I am also out of warranty. So I was thinking:

1) Is it the head unit? Not likely, one disk works, one doesn't.
2) Is it just the eastern disk? No, you demonstrated the western can fail, too.
3) Is there a special software upgrade on one disk but not the other? Nope, see our cases.
4) it is just the disk for where you are currently parked? No, since you were on the eastern disk in the eastern zone and it worked.
5) Is it just bad luck with disks? Who knows? I'd be willing to trade working east - west with you to try.

Other ideas?

sb.

Please refer to post #44 and #52. It's a bad DVD drive.

2010 disk is fine.

Update:

I built a 2010 Eastern disk using guidance from here and it works great.

No software upgrade, no hardware fix. I'll live with this a while.

Love this car....truly a beast,

SB.

Smile 2011 NAV DVD load problem - 2007 BMW 750iL

Tried to load DVD Map 2013 but failed. Had problem ejecting the DVD! Then could not load either my old 2011 Map discs or the 2013 Map Discs!
Checked Forum and one member recommended using a DVD lens cleaning kit and using a micro fiber cloth to clean the disc.
Waited over night and did as recommended. Problem corrected and my 2011 East Coast Map and NAV system works.

Have searched but can't find the answer to this. Does anyone know if this DVD "update" disc like I listed below is a drop in update for my '07 530's system. I'm still using the original DVD and the maps are starting to get old. Would this be a straight drop in replacement for the 2007 disc or does it require more? According to the info it will work with an E60 along with a lot of others, just seems like 10 bucks is getting off awful cheap to get the new maps.
