Cargo Cover Lift Support

Can anyone help me with some dimensions for the gas lift support?

Black body diameter 15mm, 19 mm or 22 mm? (I will settle for circumference if you can measure that easier)

Polished shaft diameter 6mm, 8mm or 10mm?

Length of travel: what is the length of the exposed polished shaft in the fully open position.

Thank you very much.

I was actually wondering about this because my Q7 had something similar to hold it up, but since I have the spare, no use for it

I have the spare tire option too but thought an inexpensive lift would be nice to have. The Q7 is a NICE ride!!

I would think that if you went to your dealer and simply showed him why you needed the lift cylinder that BMW cost-reduced out of the U.S. X5's, the dealer might do it for free...

If anyone's interested, I'm selling lift support kits for the X5 spare tire cover/cargo storage cover.

If you still have it - I am interested.
However, I need it to receive it in Buffalo by Friday this week, so I will be pick it up (driving from Toronto) on Saturday.
Let me know what you can do with shipping.
Thank you

Thanks to everyone who posted info on this. I too was wondering if my 2011 x35d might have come with it but the original owner never installed it. Turns out that it's excluded by default. Looking at page133 in the 2011 Owners Manual, I see that "The floor panel flap can be locked*." and we all know that the "*" means "optional".

Thanks for providing the part numbers. Still can't believe that it's optional. Seriously. I guess we are supposed to use our head -- literally -- as stated above.

Checked RealOEM using my VIN and it still shows 07129903027 as the correct screw.

Wow, prices sure have gone up. In just a few minutes I got the following prices:

BMW of Murrieta:
51479149120 - Gas pressurized spring = $58.79
51479138212 - Gas pressurized spring bracket = $21.18
07129903027 - Screw = $1.68 x 4 = $6.72
Shipping = $0 (I would pick-up)
Total (before tax) = $86.69!

GetBMW Parts.com:
51479149120 - Gas pressurized spring = $41.26
51479138212 - Gas pressurized spring bracket = $12.28
07129903027 - Screw = $0.96 x 4 = $3.84
Shipping = $14.95
Total = $72.33!

PelicanParts.com:
51479149120 - Gas pressurized spring = $53.00
51479138212 - Gas pressurized spring bracket = $15.75
07129903027 - Screw = $1.20 x 4 = $5.00
Shipping = $5.75
Total (before CA tax) = $79.50!

Bavarian Auto:
51479149120 - Gas pressurized spring = $50.95
51479138212 - Gas pressurized spring bracket = $14.95
07129903027 - Screw = $1.95 x 4 = $7.80
Shipping = $10.95
Total = $84.65!

BMW of South Atlanta:
51479149120 - Gas pressurized spring = $51.57
51479138212 - Gas pressurized spring bracket = $15.35
07129903027 - Screw = $1.20 x 4 = $4.80
Shipping = $12.95
Total = $84.67!

Now, I'm used to paying exorbitant prices for OEM parts for my M3, but this is ridiculous, folks.

I'm going to keep shopping around... Will post better prices if/when I find them.

I'm going to have to ask my CA to add this to mine when I take delivery, if it isn't already isntalled.

Shouldn't there be two springs? one on each side?? Having only one in the middle just doesn't seem to be sturdy enough.

It's only designed for one spring, the cargo floor is actually pre-threaded for the screws in the middle. Considering the spring only holds up the cargo floor (which is quite light), it's plenty sturdy. I could see the concern if it were not pressurized...but it is.

Mine came without the lift mechanism... I've asked my CA about it and she will look into it if I could provide her with the part number, which I just did.

We will see!

They all come without the lift mechanism...since 2011. The good news is, through at least 2012, the cargo cover still has holes threaded for screws so the installation is super easy.

That's good. It's a 30 second, $40 install that IMO, is worth every penny.

07-12-9-903-027 ISA Screw 4x.96 = $3.84
51-47-9-138-212 Bracket 1x12.28 = $12.28
51-47-9149-120 Spring 1x41.26 = $41.26

Plus 5 minutes of my time. Definitely worth it

The holes are pre-drilled and they have the metal inserts that take the screws above. Super easy and straightforward installation. Mine is a 2012 X35d built the 2nd week 1/12. I bought the parts from Evan at getbmwparts.com

As far as the $13.99 Autozone post, others have tried the part number he suggested and the gas spring associated with that part number is too long.

As others have stated, it's a 5 minute job. In fact, once you do it and find out it takes literally a FEW minutes, you'll laugh at how much time you spent thinking about doing it.
