Snow Tires for F10 (2011 535i) Sport

These are my "Ugly" Chinese made cheepo black winter wheels from the Tirerack. I've gotten quite a few compliments on them.

They look fine to me.

I looked at these black rims and the TRMotorsport MT1s; found the latter to be better made and much lighter - though of course more expensive. My view is that I am driving on snows for more than one-third of the time (from December through early April), and so it's worth making a bit of an investment. Besides, it's like putting on a different outfit for the winter - it's fun. Will post photos when making the change early next month.

How much were they? What's the difference in weight? Mine were only $149 each.

Kocsis, are you using any local tire shop or the dealer? I have used 2 shops one in Broookline and one in Newton, but sometimes they screw up big times: once they put the wrong screws in and forgot the spacers. I found the dealer, at least one in Sudbury, to be more reliable

On Friday 11.19.10 I ordered BMW Style 350M wheels 18x8 for 25% off. $1309 for 4 plus shipping from BMW of Newport Rhode Island. $327 per wheel. They will ship in 3 days. Great deal on very cool wheels. I am mounting Dunlop Winter Sport 3D tires form Tire Rack on them. I paid a very slight premium over the BMW wheel and tire package for the 550i which is no longer available. More expensive than Chinese wheels but worth it to me. Plus the resale vale with BMW wheels is much better.

The wheels certainly look cool on Rich's f10. He needs the black kidney grills for winter use to complete his agressive new look.

I use Direct Tire in Watertown. They're great, and just slightly more than Tirerack - but then you don't pay shipping (but pay tax)....on a 4 wheel/tire package it comes out about $100-150 more, which to me is worth it. They also do free tire changes spring and fall.

Mine were almost double. Weight little over 18 lbs. Yours look great, though.

I was just talking about mounting the tires not buying them there. I have to switch on e60 first and then get a set for f10. I know tirerack does testing to make sure the wheels fit (clear the breaks and stuff) you trust those guys enough for that?

pharding...If I'm not mistaken didn't you get the wheel/tire insurance package? If so, does the winter package that you purchased qualify to be covered under the policy?

Just to clarify one point: Is it true that wheels from the 2008 535 will NOT fit a 2011 535?

I have a winter set for my 2008 535 that I'd love to use on the new 2011 when it arrives and not have to shell out more cash...

The dealer in Calgary said they wouldn't but didn't seem very confident in their advice.

I also have e60 535 sport and when I was thinking of getting f10 535 sport, I asked that of tirerack, they said those wheels will not fit since f10 has bigger brakes. That contributed to my decision of getting 550. To make sure, get the offsets of the wheels you have and ask tirerack since I don't know if you have sport or not and stuff

I had a 2008 BMW 535i SPORT and the tires do NOT fit on my 2011 535i SPORT PKG. NOR will they fit on purchased 18" wheels. I verified this with both tirerack AND BMW.
I am not sure about the non-sport package equipped vehicles.

Thanks DXK and dnemer. My current 2008 535xi has the sport package and so does the new 2011 535xdrive.

So I guess I have a nice set of 2008 wheels and winter tires to sell now!

Okay, what I said only applies to rwd cars, not awd. I would guess it's the same deal, but I have no direct knowledge of that.

The Rial wheel is made in Germany and has a 5-yr finish warranty. I think this is a quality product at a VERY reasonable price. Get it now before they sell out for this winter.

Watch out for winter tires made in China. Just read an article in German mag, that ADAC (our AAA) tested European made vs. Chinese made winter tires and the car going at 70 km/hour stopped in 65 meters with western European made tires while the same car with Chinese made tires stopped in 100 meters. Also, the winter tires should not be older than 3-4 years.

Avoid any Chinese tires at this point.

Oh, and the ADAC is like AAA on Steroids, HGH and Amphetamines.

Checked my Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 performance RFT snow tires and they say "Made in Japan". So I guess I am safe and the were worth $254 each. I highly reccommend them, they handle and grip great in the dry.

Anybody have any suggestions on where I should sell a set of tires that I had on my 2008 535i sport? They do not fit my F10. Can I list them somewhere on this site?

(I don't want to list them on Craigslist or eBay--don't want to deal with the scammers.)

Thanks. After your reply, I was able to find the wheels & tires classified section of the Bimmerfest. I will list them there. I paid $151 each plus tax and shipping for the fronts and $219 each plus tax and shipping for the rears. (without tax, they cost me $828.) They are virtually new.

What do you think I should list them at? (Also, I have no idea how much they would cost to ship in the domestic US...maybe $80 UPS Ground. (I don't think they would have to be boxed--just wrapped with tape and shipping label.)
