Comfort Access?
All,
Is it really worth the $1000?? Our X5 is just about to start production and I'm having second thoughts... wife wanted it, but my German frugal side rebelled... thoughts bitte! Danke Sehr

I have an X6 and went through a similar dilemma ... In the end I decided not to get the CA. This decision was mostly out of principle (I got almost every other option package) ... I just can't believe they want $1,000 for it on an X5/X6 but only $500 on a 3 series ... it just seems so ridiculous.

Not for me. Others will gush about how they wouldn't own ca car without it.... but seems a lot for a widget that has a few known issues (ie opening up for no reason when the handle gets wet, ie in the rain)
Adaptive drive is something that matters..CA and HUD, just shiny objects. IMO A |

Personally I love it...I've had it for three years on my M3 with no issue and just ordered it on my wife's X5 50...I think it's more effectively marketed toward women though since guys pull their keys out of a pocket not a purse with a whole bunch of other stuff in it....
But like any option; to each his/her own! |

This option depends on your situation. The $1000 is ridiculous for this option but the price was not a factor for my situation. We have two small kids and comfort access is a great option and helps tremendously. My wife loves the fact she doesn't have to dig in her purse for the keys. When your hands are full, again great option. CA is a convenience option and if you don't think using your key fob is inconvenient then you may not want it.

To each their own, but here's one solid vote in favor. I've had it since '07 on 2-BMWs with zero issues; the wifey's had it since '08 on her lil' Infiniti EX35 with zero issues. Call us crazy/lazy, but the lack of CA ("keyless go" - or whatever you want to call it) is a MUST HAVE option for our future vehicle choices. Waiting for the diesel GLK to "cross the pond. . . . "

I have it and barely use it. I would rather have comfort seats or premium stereo.

This is my favorite feature, especially coz I've a small kid. Tough to reach and fumble for keys when carrying the little one with two arms.

Big YES for CA
Makes getting kids into the X5 a lot easier if you are carrying them...also, I don't keep the keys in my pocket when I go to work...keys stay in my work bag...
The difference in price between the 3 and non-3 BMWs is that only the front doors of the 3 have CA...our 3-series wagon only has CA on the front two doors - back doors do not open automatically... Double the sensors --> double the price... |

I use it everyday, all the time, and with lugging kids and stuff around, it's great.

I have it and use it all the time. Would not want to get another car without it. I love not having to get the keys out of my pocket! Your wife with not have to look for her keys in her handbag, that means she will love you for it!!

We just bought our 3 series with the convenience Pkg which includes CA, we use it everyday. No kids yet, but I can see this as a very useful feature for folks with kids.
I am still getting used to CA, keep reaching for the key when getting out or shutting off the car. The wife loves the feature as the key always remains tucked in her purse in a secure zipped pocket. I keep mine in my bag at all times. |

My wife and I debated it (she wanted it, I wanted to spend the $$$ elsewhere) but in the end, she won. I have my say, she gets her way! Our last car had it and we have been driving a 335 without as we wait for our new X5d. I have to admit that I miss it quite a bit. For guys it really isn't that big a deal although it is nice not to have to dig a key out of your pocket but for women with purses, it is pretty damn convenient. It should be standard on this vehicle and include remote start but that is a whole different conversation...

CA does seem to be a hit with the women...........maybe us guys simply have keys in our pockets and don't need to dig them out of the bottomless-pit of "stuff" that is often a woman's handbag.

Really depends on how much you are in and out of your car on a normal day...
Drive it to work, park it, drive it home park it, and CA isn't that much of a plus. If you are in and out of your car all day, it is mighty nice. I'm still deciding on the final config of my X5, but I have the same feature in my Touareg. When I leave the house in the morning, I stick the key in the watch pocket in my jeans (perfect key pocket!). It doesn't come out until I'm back for the night. |

For me? No. My keys are in my pocket all the time, and I have no problem pulling them out and pushing a button on them. But, for a woman, who has to rummage in her purse, and who often has other stuff in her arms, I can see it would be a big help.

I'm a guy in favor. Because the X6 key and the key to the coupe are exactly the same having the CA on both cars means I'm not potentially leaving an unlocked car in the driveway while trying to unlock the other.

Always thought CA was a stupid waste of money till I had it. Now it's indispensible. With three identical BMW keys on the key ring (2008 M3, 2008 and 2011 X5's) it sure beats guessing which remote button works on a particular car.
Yeah, nice problem to have, to be sure.
