Speaker rattle and hum

My 7er has premium audio, whatever that means. A few months ago, the rear left passenger door speakers developed a buzz, very noticeable listening to talk radio (I mostly listen to NPR, or some fun stuff on Sirius).

The dealer changed the speaker. Problem solved. Now the driver's door speakers are buzzing. I have an appointment next week.

Anyone else have issues with speakers?

I have this same exact problem with my driver's door speaker when listening to 1010 WINS AM radio or on a telephone call on Bluetooth. I was able to reproduce the noise (a buzzing sound) to multiple people at my dealership - the service writer, who then got the tech - but the tech then stated he didn't hear anything even though we were able to reproduce it SEVERAL TIMES. The service manager didn't want anything to do with it, deferring to his tech, at which point I got into a loud argument with him in the middle of the service department, wasting 5-10 minutes of his time, when he could've just sat in the car with me, which was no more than 200 feet away.

I had something similar on the driver's side. Only heard it during speaking portions of whatever I was listening to. I pushed down really hard on the plastic surrounding the window buttons because it seemed to be where the vibration was coming from, and I haven't heard it since.

dbs - sounds like your dealer really sucks. did they end up fixing it? i wouldn't imagine their cost of replacing one of these crappy speakers would be more than $40 in parts.

My dealer ended up replacing the speaker and the door trim. Problem solved.

Sometimes I do feel a buzz, but it may just be my morning coffee!

A bottle of wine for the SA at Christmas goes a long way!

I REPEAT: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS POS COMPANY???

One plus years ago my driver's door speaker was buzzing at times, most noticeable / reproducible when on a telephone call. Dealer A "could not duplicate", but the problem was not as apparent as it later became. Subsequently dropped car off at Dealer B, came to pick up the car and again received "could not duplicate" BS. Spoke to shop foreman and showed him the problem. The dealer held on to the car further and replaced the offending speaker, which - GUESS WHAT??? - SOLVED THE F'N PROBLEM.

Fast forward, problem returns. Dealer A again says "could not duplicate". I get very upset and reproduce problem for the service writer, who gets shop foreman to come out. Reproduce problem for shop foreman, but he deflects in a million different ways and ultimately states he does not hear any buzzing; BS, BS, BS. Looking him straight in the eyes, while we're side by side in the car, and he's lying to my face. Shop foreman goes to speak with service manager, they spend 5+ minutes in his office, service manager comes out, I'm thinking great, let me show him the problem (car is no more than a couple hundred feet away), but he refuses and states his foreman is his eyes and ears and stands by his determination, in response to which my voice became publically loud.

Time passes, driver's door speaker has continued to buzz and front passenger door now buzzes as well. Bring car to Dealer B, show mechanic buzzing upon drop off, which I'm able to readily reproduce and which he readily acknowledges, WEEK AND A HALF LATER, return to dealer only to receive the "could not duplicate" BS, get in the car with the service advisor and shop foreman, able to reproduce the problem, only for the shop foreman to deflect, lie, etc. stating he doesn't hear anything, then stating he does, but it's the radio and the phone signal, and that no "codes" are showing. I become beyond frustrated.

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE???

Do what I did regarding my transmission problem. Call BMW NA! The case will get escalated to Client Relationship Management quickly. Give them all the details about how bad of a service received at dealer A & B. They will have a factory authorized specialist come out to the dealership of your choice. Once you "reproduce" your problem in front of the specialist, his card trumps everyone else's at the dealership. He will even offer to roll video while you reproduce your issue for documentation. Good luck!

Thank you, but my Market Area's Regional Technical Engineer (aka the Factory Representative) is the worst of them all. I haven't been allowed to meet with him in the past on other issue and several people have told me that he is incentivized to deny work; truly disgusting. I love automobiles and I've always loved BMW, but the more I encounter and the more I discuss with others, others are just now at this late time with all I've been through thus far starting to convince me that I'd be crazy to ever recommend a product the company offers.

Unlock your doors and i'll bet it goes away. My dealership found that the door lock mechanisms are causing this

It's not the locks, but thanks ausdude.

Car is at (a different) dealer now and they're replacing the amplifier.

Any chance that buzzing out of one speaker can be caused by a bad amp?

I'd think I'd be having problems with more than one (starting to be two) speaker(s), if so...

Absolutely, this can be caused by a bad amp. While humming or buzzing is more likely caused by a speaker/wire/ grounding/ interference issues, a bad amp is not out of the realm of possibility and it can be localized to one side/speaker.
