Chasing a few small issues

Car: 1997 528i (build date 7/96)
Miles: 152k
Scanner: Creator C110

As many of you may know I've managed to resurrect this car and have made it my dd for the past several months. Prior issues with overheating were fixed (had a cracked head). While I was in there I made sure to touch everything.

Now, the car has been fine but there are a couple of things which still vex me.

1. The traction control icon will randomly flash briefly now and again. This happens in cold and warm weather; snow, rain or dry weather (snow tires or all seasons); fast or slow speeds.

There appears to be no effect one way or another to the driveability of the car while this happens. I have not been able to find why it feels the need to flash... Any thoughts?

2. I continue to get the following CEL codes:
E3 Mixture Deviation, Cylinders 1-3
CA Oxygen- Sensor Control limit, Cylinders 1-3

I can pull this code when the CEL is illuminated or when it's off. It usually comes on at low speed and if I clear it, the light stays off for how ever long I may drive. (So, I'm pretty sure it's a tiny vacuum leak somewere- but where!?!?)

So far there is no effect on driveability, function, performance or mpg. It's just annoying to have that stupid light coming on every time I start the car.

When I had the head off, I double checked everything! All vacuum lines were replaced and even the new CCV seems to be sitting tightly. All the necessary gaskets were replaced, the IAC was cleaned, the MAF was cleaned, the gasket for the maf was replaced, the manifold gaskets were replaced, all the injectors were cleaned, flowed and rebuilt with new gaskets, the exhaust manifolds got new gaskets, and were properly torqued, the secondary air system was checked, cleaned, got new gaskets and was properly torqued, the rubber elbow was triple checked for any cracking, etc...

I'm out of ideas on this one... And while it's not a major ordeal, I am loathe to cover the CEL with a piece of tape or remove the bulb. I prefer to fix things properly but I'm not sure what else to look at.

Any alternative ideas?

You may want to try swapping your bank 1-3 & bank 4-6 precats 02 sensors and see if the error code follows the sensor. I had a similar problem & it was in fact one of the 02 sensors.

Interesting. I suppose it cannot hurt to try.
