Snowflake light on

Hi,

Occassionally, my car has the snowflake light on, I don't see anything obviously wrong, it happened a few times since last 3 months. I want to know what happens and what to do with it?

Thanks,

Please allow me to answer this before all the sarcasm comes your way from other members - and it will.

You will get two standard answers:

1) "Search" is your friend.

2) Read the manual.

The answer is simple. It is a warning that the temperature is at or below 37 degrees and to watch the conditions, basically.

Add 3. Use common sense, what would you think a snowflake would indicate? Time for an oil change?

I liked the snowflake on my Audi better. Why can't BMW have a snowflake more like that one? I think this might be the last straw, and I'm dumping BMW...

Oh yeah, 50 years old and I am real worried about my post count........ Guess what, I don't mod either.

Actually, about 10 years ago I used this site quite a bit when I had my new 5-series, but those posts and whatever I may have had for a username are long gone now, along with my memory, my hair, the 5-series, etc.........

I think we established that you have shredded a gear in the USA. In Canada, it means it is time to break out the baseball bats and go seal clubbing! woot, woot!

I really wish these expensive cars would come with some sort of instruction book to explain what the various lights and switches do? Other cars come with them...please explain why BMWs don't.

Listen wise-ass, it was only a couple weeks ago that you found out what it meant when you posted a thread identical to this one. We were very direct and helpful in answering your question. A little less condescension and a little more love would go a long way toward making Bimmerfest the kinder, gentler place we strive to obtain.
Jerk.

I can't. I'm hoping to get a job as a moderator and my response could put my chances in jeopardy.
Besides, I always thought it was a puckered butt. Every time I'm freezing cold the symbol pops up on the dash. How do they know?

Your 3 has the ability to forecast weather wherever it is, but the system is undocumented for other than authorized techs. Throttle and brake adjustments are automatically made by the ECU and sub systems - you may notice changes in your car's behavior as temps drop.

The ECU does, however, afford a warning to the driver in the form of a snowflake when sensors indicate that below freezing precipitation is likely. Indeed, snow may quickly follow.

When the snowflake appears, the driver is expected to proceed very cautiously, as the road may become icy, and summer tire use is Verboten, a possible violation if they are on your car!

If you have BMW assist, be ready for a firm voice through your audio system giving you direction, sometimes in German. Often you'll be directed to turn off your vehicle and stand at attention by the driver's door until a law enforcement unit arrives. Be prepared if driving with summer tires! Have a detailed explanation ready, best rehearsed and committed to memory before pleading your case. Remember, if you've caused an officer to drive through poor weather to find you, he's one pissed off minion!

I would like to buy a credit default swap on DSX's posts. The chances of them 'failing' are so high that this is easy money.

Is every snowflake the same color? Is every snowflake the same? Does BWW customize the snowflake for every car? Cuz every snowflake is supposed to be different, right?

It means your car is low on snow, probably because your snow-cone maker is low on fluid. If there are no slushies in the dispenser in the armrest, this is why.

LOL....I think the "time for an oil change" one is my favorite.
