I have 2004 525i.Does a low or bad battery cause the alarm to continue to go off?

if it is the original battery, or oem.... there should be a little tiny whole (window type) with glass on top that displays either green, yellow, or red. will tell you if the battery is good or dead on its own no need to troubleshoot.

I had the same issues, sometimes it will start the next day nothing at the turn. I got stranded on a parking lot at night on a winter night, no start what so ever. Took the massive battery out and took it to shop near by, they said it was fine, that is when i realized there is a little window type in the middle that displayed a green thing deep down.

Turns out my started was going out, so I had to replace it with a used one from ebay got it for $90 and works like a charm.

so check the battery, bring it to autozone or whoever they clamp it and see how much juice its got totally, if it starts with lag and slowly seems like its struggling, might be the battery, if it starts now good, and tomorrow wont start no matter what you do....its the starter most likely. I even called the dealer they told me "hold the jumper cables for about 20 mins on the battery since there are lots of electronics" who the heck holds it on htere for almost half hour, its not a plane.

hope this helps.

It can if you lock the car and engage the alarm before the battery dies.

The BMW DWA (anti-theft system) will trigger the alarm using a back up battery (which is charged when the car is running and allows the DWA to operate independent of the main battery) if:

-Emergency siren is disconnected
-Vehicle battery is disconnected
-Overvoltage of vehicle electrical system > 16V
-Rapid discharge of battery

Apparently the last condition is tripping your alarm if it is set. Until you sort out the battery issue, if you have the car in a private garage don't lock it.
