2011 DINAN X5 50i

Finally got around to taking a few pics of my ride. I got the 2011 X5 50i with M package back in September and decided to send it to the guys at DINAN for a lil upgrade. I couldn't be happier right now with the car. They increased the power dramatically up from 400 HP to 495HP with 570+ lb/ft torque! They increased the boost from about 9.5psi to 14psi and i also got their free flow exhaust put on the car with the black ceramic tips. The exhaust is amazing and has zero drone around town and cruising on freeway, but when you step on it the thing turns into a different animal. I smoked a 2011 Cayenne S the other day on the freeway and i don't think he had a clue what happened. The car is amazing and well worth it. Question is if any of you have any advice for any other mods i could do to my car. DINAN is going to work on a suspension system for the X5 and i'm most likely going to lower it 3/4 - 1 inch which i think will make it look a bit more sporty.

Other than that i'd be curious if anyone has any input on RIMS. I would love to get HRE's, but i don't feel like spending $5K plus on wheels. Anyone have any experience with any good rims that aren't too flashy and don't break the bank. I also don't want to take away from my ride by buying cheap phony rims. I'm currently thinking about buying a set of repo X6M 300M 20 inch rims as a winter set (see bottom two pics attached 1 pic is the wheel the other pic is of a mounted application for the repo from another BMW forum member) and then use them for the next 5 months for ski season (put on snow tires 275/40/20's all around) and then perhaps sell my current 333M OEM 20 inch wheels (on the car now) and upgrade to something nicer for my full time summer set post April 2011. Anyone have any input? You think i should go black? I'm not interested in blacking out the rear tail lights as i think that is overkill.

Other mods to date include:
Black painted reflectors
Black painted OEM grill inserts
Dinan pedal set
Dinan free flow exhaust with black ceramic tips
Dinan stage 1 engine software kit and boost kit

My current 333M rims are not painted charcoal btw, that is just brake dust, car is filthy right now as its been raining a ton in nor cal

How much did the exhaust system cost and does it add any extra power. I did the Dinan software upgrade too.

What about doing the angel eye change from yellow to white. BTW the car looks sharp. What do you think about the style 336's?

Also, I didn't see an option for an exhaust for the e70 50i on Dinan's website...can you provide some info?

I would keep your current OEM's & use them as winters. Then get a set of Ferric Grey 215s as summers.

drpahjee i believe i was the first 50i install for the exhaust system. They didn't need to recut or change my rear bumper which was nice, they did need to take it off for the install, but it fit pretty cookie cutter in the end. They should have it up on the website soon, but it is essentially the same thing as the X650i application which is already on the site. However, they needed to make a slightly different mold for the X5 due to some inconsistencies between the rear setup of the x6 vs. the x5. In any event i'd contact them and get it. Personally i'm a huge exhaust fanatic and i don't like quite when i'm trying to be loud, however i do like quiet when i'm trying to be quiet and this is the best of both worlds. The black tips are sweet as well and they hang out just far enough to make it known that its a custom job and not a stock configuration.

thanks...do you mind sharing the price? also, any hp/tq gains?

my dinan exhaust on my m3 is my favorite mod so i'd be leaning towards another dinan exhaust!

Pretty sure it was the same price as the x6 free flow exhaust which is posted on their website (http://dinancars.com/shop/index.aspx...rive50i#page=1). They say it provides an additional 7HP and 6lbft of torque. The important thing to note is this bumps me to about 502HP. Having over 500HP was big for me as i'm a total HP junkie. To get X5 M performance at a big discount made the wait well worth it!

wow! that's a lot to pay for 7HP/6lb-ft! good for you!

BTW, how do the 2 compare sound-wise...i was pretty impressed w/ sound from the stock 50i exhaust.

Much more throaty. Agree that stock sounds pretty good, but this is much more throaty, but no drone so i'm very pleased. When i clean the car i'll post more pics and show the rear from a different angle. The tips look awesome as they protrude out just enough.

You guys have me some good feedback on rims, but what about non OEM rims? HRE, BBS ? Anything else out there that wouldn't look ghetto, but would be more unique and custom looking than BMW OEM? I'm not a big fan of all the geometric shapes within the design the 214s and other BMW OEM style rims. I prefer the more traditional straight lines better.

Watch out when smoking Cayenne S's on the freeway around here. You won't smoke the CHPies in their clapped out Crown Vics. Also be careful of kids in primered K5 Blazers with shaker hoods and a funny smelling exhaust at stop lights too! OTT, you have a great ride and Dinan is the best IMHO.

I'm getting the upgrade next year! But first it's vegas for a little poker!

The standard 50i is ridiculously fast to start with.. but still I can't wait for the extra hp!

I bought new off the lot 2011 5.0. Someone switched the 20 in rims that were advertised on the car and replaced with a set of M pkg 20in rims. I really liked the originals better than the M's. They had an x6 on the lot with the rims I liked. So they tried to pull them off the x6 and put them on my x5. There is something different in the x6 and they told me they weren't compatible. Just wanted to let you know, so you can investigate this before you purchase the x6 rims.

I would imagine you would have no problem trading your M Sport rims for 20" Style 336s (the rims that come with the X5 50i Sport)...

+1... Once I get my car (another 3 weeks or so), a Dinan software is going even before I break in the car (they said it's ok)...

I know if you have to ask, but what about mpg? How worse? The Dinan felloa said that the pressure in low revs doesn't change that much so mileage in normal conditions shouldn't change...

is the dinan safe? seems like the xtra hp quite large for an SUV.

Even my Porsche dealer said the Cayenne Turbo S is out of control.....

Kinda retorical question that I asked them, they do provide 4 year warranty for any secondary problems from their upgrades. All they recommend is taking the car to a stealership that deals with them because they know their policies.

OT, are those 19s gunmetal on the pic/M3? I'm thinking about giving my ///M3 a minor augmentation.

Call Dinan and ask them. They are very friendly folks and will certainly know.
