Wow, your car looks awesome indeed draped in Imperial Blue. Enjoy it, and post your impressions as you pile the miles on. Congrats!

Pretty car. How is the engine in such a large car? Is it responsive or lacking?

I didn't notice any difference between 535i and 528i when I test drive the two before ordering mine. I guess you really need to drive them on the highway to notice any difference.

You mean you actually test drove both cars and could not detect any difference? Did you have a chance to accelerate the car during your test drive? It's hard to believe that there are no discernible differences when test driving these two cars unless you just went around the block at 30 mph.

Simply driving on roads around a dealership you are not going to feel a drastic difference. The 528 performs very well and has plenty of "Get up and go". If driving on the highway and mashing the pedal, there is a difference. But of course we don't mash the gas all the time......even on the highway. The 528 has plenty of power to make anyone smile.

Interesting. Most enthusiasts would probably be able to detect the difference, but i understand if you didn't. I am sure you will enjoy your car, it is a pretty one. The 528 has the advantage of not having a turbo - maybe that makes a difference in reliability, who knows.

Sorry, the torque difference alone will show itself immediately in comparing the two vehicles. Saying otherwise is just rationalization, IMO. I had an '08 335i 6MT and now a 535i. The torque on tap at any rpm is undeniable in comparison to their x28i brethren. The OP must have been totally "babying" the cars during the test drives.

Actually, accelerating in normal traffic from stops, passing cars, other regular maneuvers will uncover the vast supply of power of the x35i's more so than simply cruising along on the highway.

Agreed, I owned the 535 and enjoyed it. But I must say the 528 with the 8 speed does performs great when passing and accelerating. I sometimes think the 528 doesn't get much respect on this thread being she has the least HP of the 3. I've logged 4000 miles on mine over the past 5 weeks since delivery and I enjoyed every minute behind the wheel. One would be surprised after logging as many miles in a short period how a driver becomes part of the car and has adjusted to it's performance capabilties with the result being the Ultimate Driving Machine. The 528 is a fine automobile.

And I didn't mean to denigrate the 528i -- I just think there's a difference that is easily felt. I've driven several 328i's but not a new 528i. I'm sure your 528i mated with that 8-spd is as seamless as my 535i, it is a great drive. I see you changed your sig picture a little while ago -- they both looked good. The lighting on your new one almost makes the color look like the Cashmere Beige (I thought it was Titanium). Happy Motoring!

No worries, I didn't mean you at all. Yes, the color changed being the sun was going down and picked up the color of the brown grass. She is Titanium.

Who knows, maybe I'll change her back to a 535 again!

I totally agree that the 528i is a damn fine car, and certainly not underpowered. It is faster than most cars on the road, and the weight distribution is closer to the ideal than either the 535i or the 550i, so it should handle better (not that I would notice the subtle difference in handling, as I am not that experienced a driver). I enjoyed my 528i thoroughly, and I would go back to that silky, linear 240 hp inline six without remorse. I am enjoying the power and torque of the 550i, but for my next one the 528i is certainly a prospect. And I hear that the fuel economy of the F10 528i is even better than that of the E60 528i, which was already impressive!

Are those the old coastal artillery bunkers in the background?

Yes, they are bunkers from WWI & WWII located at Sandy Hook, New Jersey. The bunkers were constructed to protect entry into New York Harbor.

Nice ride!

I know what you mean about the 528 VS 535. It really depends on driving style. I got an E350, and drove it back with E550's, CLS550's, etc. and didn't notice all so big a difference, all because I have a very mellow driving style. I don't really push the car enough to require the differences to be all so prevalent. Fortunately, a 240+ HP car will feel more than adequate in real world/everyday driving, especially in congested areas.

Hi dpwr,

No, it does not. My car is real quite, in fact it's so quite that I thought the car was turned off but it wasn't. Sorry, it looks like you seriously have some problem with the engine.
