This is apparently in response to the engine fires that have intermittently plagued some '07-'11 MINI Coopers. Check the NHTSA notice for details about which models/years are affected. In general, however, if you own a turbocharged MINI, your vehicle is affected; the "Justa" MINI's do not have the auxiliary water pump, which is used to cool the turbocharger. Although the link I've provided is for the U.S. notice, this recall apparently applies to vehicles sold in the whole of North America (U.S. and Canada).
Notices should be sent out from MINI/BMW to owners shortly; expect parts to be available and repairs to commence in February. Until then, I believe MINI/BMW is recommending that owners avoid parking their vehicles inside their garages. Yeah, yeah; I know: easier said than done during an Upper Midwest/Canadian winter...

The recall is world wide. There is a recall for 29,868 Cooper S and JCW cars sold in the UK.
