Wrong section. Price sounds a bit steep, but what do i know..i get my programming for free.

I'd say you're almost in dealer price range for similar coding

Oops- please move thread

That's pretty good dealer pricing if thats the case...here they want $130 just to turn the DRL's off. And 80$ to diagnose any light.

Ripoffs

You can buy the "knock-off" scan tool with the PA Soft BMW Scanner 1.4.0 with ODB-II interface for $35 at xcar360 with free shipping. However, expect delivery to take several weeks or longer. $25 shipping gets it in less than a week. You will need a USB-equipped laptop with Windows.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I looked at that software and scanner tool you mentioned from xcar and it looks as if the software really only likes Microsoft XP. Anyone use this with 7 or know of another low cost software similar that will work better with 7? I have an XP PC but it's old and really could crash at any time - lol.

I'm using it now with 7 x64. Follow this link to use it for first time: PA SOFT 1.4 Windows 7 64bit BMW Scanner How to install DIY HELP.

You will have to perform the Device Manager driver update for every different USB port you connect the tool to for the very first time. Also, whenever you disconnect and reconnect the tool, you must exit then relaunch BMW Scanner.

Thanks guys, seems pretty simple and I'll have to order it soon. Having my wife's best friend disable my DRL's tomorrow at the dealer (she is a BMW SA) for free But it's nice to have control of the car more for the future cause as the E46 platform get's older it's going to get harder to find people to help for free. Also, I love having more control of my car as I do the same with my flash programming on my 95' Trans Am.

It certainly has become an invaluable tool during my repair and troubleshooting of my transmission and SES light errors; I would not have been able to get the car at least drivable without the ability to clear the transmission error codes.

The best $55 (chose one week delivery) I spent on the car so far...
