Front strut question please help

On epc my veh front strut are part numbers 31 31 2 228 007 and 31 31 2 228 008. I just picked up 31 31 2 226 987 and 31 31 2 226 988 really cheap. Now checking those parts they say are for a m3 coupe. Here is the question....

When looking up a e36 m3 coupe there is a m3 and m3 3.2 listed in epc. The e36 m3 3.2 coupe has the same front strut part numbers listed as my car. Now the e36 m3 has the other part numbers listed 31 31 2 226 988 and 31 31 2 226 987.
Was there a update to the front struts from begin production m3 to end production m3?
If anyone know what was changed and if the part number 31 31 2 226 987 31 31 2 226 988 will fit my car.

The struts listed for the 3.2 will fit 1996 and newer. 1995 were the 3.0 litre and I believe they were different. Check realoem.

You can use any M3 strut on any year. They are all operationally the same even if they have different part #'s. The differences for 95 were the spring mounting hats, lower control arm and bushing, and the strut mounts. The struts all fit the same and have the same damping rates.
