Z4M: No sound from speakers (DSP Premium)
Hello All-
This morning on the way to work, my radio/speakers were working fine and then all of a sudden no sound. There was no blowout or sudden static. Just like someone hit a mute button. No navi voice, no music from any modes. Display, GPS and interface are all fine and powered properly. I can switch between CD/Aux/Radio and access all menus, just no sound coming out of the speakers. I have had this happen about a month ago, and I disconnected the battery, checked all the connections, fuses and terminals, cleaned the terminals, and put everything back and all was well. Have any of you had this problem before? What might the cause be? I did some searching around and apparently quite a few people on the M5 and 335 boards had this problem: The M5 boards are old but new posts are being added: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39...p-problem.html http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=452691 the 335 boards reference SIB 65 16 09..... any idea if that applies to E86 Z4M's? I will try to disconnect the power source to the amp again this afternoon after work....but just curious if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks in advance. Sounds like you are losing the amp, or it's triggering its own internal shutdown like home amps do when they get too hot.

Is it back to working again now? I had mine turned up really loud one time and it shut down completely, but then worked fine afterward. A thermal overload protection most likely.

Yep....I turned on my car during lunch that day and everyone was fine. Its been a week or so and never had a problem again. I do think that it is a thermal overload and will try to keep my volume down a bit.

If your amp is going into thermal overload, I think it is doing this prematurely and may need to be replaced.
In both of my Z’s, I have never had this issue even when the outside temps were 90’+ and the AC was NOT running. The thermal diodes that control this function may be faulty. Keeping the volume down is a work around and you should not have to do that.
