strut/shock replacement

I took my 85 325e to the shop to check out the suspension. looks like I need new struts/shocks/mounts. was going to cost me over 1k to fix so I wan to purchase the parts myself and have the fix it. Does anyone have experience and know what parts I should purchase. I already have the 2 struts and 2 shocks. I know i need th front and rear mounts. So besides that what else is there that should be replaced? any type of rings. gaskets, bearings, rubber parts. etc...?

they said i need a rear hub bearing and end link. I purchased a rear wheel bearing is that that same?? and is the end link the sway bar link?

Yes they were referring to the wheel bearing, and also yes to the swaybar end links. If you need new rear end links, i'd check all your front bushings too

For the rear shock mounts, I'd look into getting the repair shop ones. They have a lifetime warranty as long as you own the car. They're more expensive but well worth it IMO.

I'm not exactly clear if you need front, rear, or both, so I'll just fill you in on my experiences. I just did the front and the rears on my 88 iX
The rear isn't too hard as far as shock replacement goes, an hour and I was done on my iX. The fronts are a different story, however. You'l probably have it easier than i had it, being an iX I had to mess with the front drive axle and such. If your car is from the south and is clean, I wouldnt worry too much about rusted nuts/bolts. If your car is in a snowy n salty state like mine, I'd check to see whats rusted, whats getting cut off, and what your keeping. I had to cut my stabilizer link off as it was rusted on, and the little screw that held the shock cartridge insert in was rusted on. Had to use an oxy-acetylene torch to make it glow, and finally could get it off then (it was 800 some bucks for a new housing if it broke, so I made sure it came off lol). Anyhow as far as rubber goes, you can get all of the stuff apart fairly cleanly. Just dont order parts you dont need, especially being a BMW...lol. Good luck
