Question Cost Options Suggested by the Dealer - Are these worth it?

Hello All,

Finally, my car (2011 535i with ALL options except Sports related package) arrived at my local dealership in Houston, this afternoon from Germany.

When the CA called me to let me know that the car has arrived, he asked me what options will I be interested. He said the dealership will provide FREE OF COST options such as tank of gas, mats, detailing and nitrogen filling. Besides that he told me that a few other options are available however at cost and thus called COST OPTIONS. These are 1) Polymer sealant for mats and seats (I ordered Napa Leather) 2) Windshield protection and 3) Window tinting.

I am LEASING this vehicle for 3 years with "Owner's Choice" option. I know the dealership installed options have high mark-up and usually NOT worth it. But, since I am leasing the car, I want to find out if they are REALLY WORTH IT,

Please help me. I am and .

Thanks a LOT

Hi,

First of all, full tank of gas and mats comes with the price.

You have the following options to buy from dealer:

Tint windows... I did mine at dealer for $295 for 35% (the lower the percentage, the darker the tint).

Perma plate (paint, leather protectant). Not needed but useful if you have kids in the car. I negotiated the price. Yes everything is negotiable.

Just say no to the cost options they are totally unnecessary.

+1. Total waste. The lease factor even compounds the fact that you will never see any of that money and the usefulness will be short lived. I would say the only thing of value would be some tint if you live in a hot climate or enjoy the aesthetic look, but that can be had for $100-200, dealer will charge much more.

The cost options are a cash-cow for the dealers. Those permanent sealants are dirt cheap and they charge an arm and a leg. Nothing good detailing stuff cannot do.
