Question help with service interval indicator

I just bought a pre-owned 01 330ci with 27k miles not long ago. The service interval indicator is showing "INSPECTION ~4K miles". How do I switch it to show "OIL SERVICE"?

Another question is: is the service interval indicator set by bmw service staffs everytime you go there for a service? If I don't do the INSPECTION I or oil change at bmw service center, will it show me warning light all the time? Thanks.

Service light

The display is correct. The car already had an Oil Service and is due for an Inspection 1. Once you do the Inspection 1 the dealer will reset it and it will show again Oil Service.

I suppose there is someone on this forum that will know how to reset the indicator...

You bet buddy :=)

A golden tip : do the service yourself as much as possible...it is not as difficult as the shops would like you to think.

Would you like to know how to perform the reset?

Depending upon your in service date, shouldn't this Inspection I be covered by your warranty? 2001 MY should have minimally, 3yr / 36k warranty. Check your vehicle "in service" date, and if it's been less than three years, make sure you burn off the next 4k as soon as possible and your Inspection I (which includes an oil change) will be covered. BTW: Read the owners manual. It will fill you in on how the car actually sets the service interval (based on how you drive)... The techs only reset it to let the car know that the service has been performed...

Sure if in warranty, play it that way..if not do it another way. By all means use the Inspection lights, and reset them when inspection is performed as they get different parameters who are measuring your engines peformance.
