e46 M3 Used Car Trivia Question

Sort of half looking for a e46 M3, taking my time. Went to see this car today because of the interesting color. Ideally I'd love to pick up an individual colored car. I knew my spidey-sense detected something wrong with the car, and sort of got a chuckle after looking at the car for 3 minutes.

What is wrong with this picture? Note this car has a clean title.

DAKARGELB = Dakar Yellow; unless I'm going color-blind, that car's been re-painted (which is also apparent from the overspray on some of the labels).

Yeah, that baffles me too... That's a lot of work to pull off all of the body panels and/or mask off everything to spray door jambs and such...

Is the car for sale by the original owner?

No, it was at a used car dealer, and he said he bought it from carmax at an auction.

I pulled a carfax on it for kicks and sometime in 2010 you see entries with "color noted as yellow", then a fender bender where airbags did not deploy, then entries with "color noted as maroon".

It looks like an expensive repaint, door jams, inside fender wells, careful taping, etc. If I could talk to the owner and understand the what and why, it might make more sense. But my guess is a non enthusiast owner didn't like the color, had body shop connections in south Florida, had a front end collision, then worked it so the insurance company mostly funded the color change.

It's not a bad color... and it looks like it was done fairly well... but why?

Why is the strut tower black? Shouldn't it be either Dakar Yellow (original) or the maroon color? And what is the reference on the sticker to "Alpine White"?
