Baby / infant car seats in 645

Hi there.

Absolutely love my car, and want to keep it.

Figured I would tap the knowledge of the parents here to see if there is a way to make a rear-facing baby seat work AND fit a reasonably sized person in the passenger seat at the same time.

We purchased a Greco Snugride 35 seat and am disappointed that it doesn't seem to fit without moving the passenger seat up to the point where there isn't much leg room for that person.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I had the same issue with finding seats for my 3 series coupe. Can't remember the seats I ended up purchasing but it would be a lot cheaper to find seats that don't take up so much room compared to replacing the car.

Saw a thread on another board. Check out the Graco Nautilus, Sunshine Radian 65, Recaro Signo and Recaro ProBooster.

I have the sunshine radian xt and britax boulevard and it was doable... the seat was pressed against the passenger seat back but was acceptable enough for me... somehow I recall the boulevard working out better as it was raised on a pedestal and so the angle where the back of the car seat hit the back of the passenger seat was higher on the passenger seat allowing a few more inches of space...

for a coupe the radian is probably better as it gives you more headroom to put the child in and out although most of the time you probably have to go into the back seat...
but it probably won't be comfortable for anybody taller than 5'4"

worst part is getting the baby in and out... I almost always opened the top to do so... (I have a vert)...

finally my child is big enough to ride facing forward if she ever comes with me on the 6...

ultimately though what ended up happening is my wife sat behind me as my baby would cry if she was in the back by herself...

Cool thread. The wife is expecting in Mar/April and I need to get a seat for my 645 Vert. Now I got some seats to research.

I have a Recaro seat in mine... I found out right away that with this seat,,, my car is a true 2-Seater. I just fold up the passenger seat whenever my daughter is in the car. Putting someone in the passenger seat is incredibly uncomfortable when my 18-month old is in the back...

Hi guys,
I wanted to see what everyone decided on here. I've tried all of the US models of infant seats and none will work in a convertible with their quick release bases. I have read that a european seat (cabriofix) will work better then any US seat, but I cannot confirm it will work with the base.

Again, this is for a rear-facing seat.

Help!

I will need ot sell my car if I can't find a rear-facing seat that will fit.

consider buying a stand alone convertible car seat (not the detachable type)...

my britax boulevard fit in the back passenger seat but it kept the front seat pushed to the maximum forward... only other passenger had to sit behind me... you could sit in the front passenger seat but it would be just as cramped as the rear driver seat...

not going to work if the wife has to ride behind you and she just gave birth... unless she's 5 foot or so...

Update - my son is now six months old and the Greco Snugride 35 (without the base) is working fine, but not great.
My wife is small and seems to be ok with where the front passenger seat needs to be to accomodate the baby seat. I feel like I dodged a bullet, as I did not want to sell the car!

I couldn't pass up this post without throwing my two cents in. I truly hate that our infant car seat has chewed up the rear panels behind the seat. My fiancé complains and wants me to trade the 645 in for an X5, but I just can't let go! We have a Jetta Vr6 for family duty so that helps a little.

you can buy a car seat protector...

I use one under the car seat... never needed the one for the back of the passenger seat.. but they do have those too that hook on to the headrest posts

You guys obviously didn't get the memo:

Upon procreating, you must immediately sell your sports car and purchase a mini van with wood grain side panels.

Oh yeah - and give up all hope too….….

I still use at very least a towel under my 6yo's booster seat.

I burnt that memo on arrival. I had an E30 convertible and a Porsche track car while my kids were growing up. Wife had a 5er wagon. All 3 cars had two kids seats installed.

Today my twin 11-year-olds still think mom's SUV is a piece of crap and want to drive in the BMW coupes whenever possible.
