E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

Should I buy? (need an opinion from the e30ers)
I used to own an e36, and she was my baby until I basically shot the engine and killed the car, but thats neither here nor there.
I live in the city now, and occasionally come home to the parents place and have the occasional need for a car. I'm talking about driving maybe 300 miles a month, and would like the input of the e30ers here http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/2101058544.html 1) im figuring I can talk him down to around $1200 2) i live in the north east and on a mountain. I never had a problem getting anywere in the snow with the e36, but having the coupe ix would be a little awesome 3) muffler job isnt that hard 4) im just concerned about the milage, but a few of my friends with e30's have proved they run forever, and i wouldn't be doing much driving. annnnnnd,go.

if he really doesnt know anything about the car MAYBE you can talk him down. but i doubt your going to talk an ix down to $1200. you need to realize its not a standard RWD e30. its AWD and far less common.
e36's are crap. just an FYI

well aware e36s are crap, especially my 318, so thanks for that reminder.
12 would be convenient, but if it needs a full exhaust im wondering if i can use that as leverage. and yes its an xi, but who knows how much maintenance has been done to the fluid awd system with 189 miles, but being aware myself at how rare the ix is, im seeing it can be an easy car to flip once im done with having it. I really don't need a vehicle, just wondering if you guys dealing with the e30s on a daily basis if the stats on this are decent enough for a once in a while driver

Make sure you know when the timing belt was done last. 325s are pretty much bulletproof but the T-Belt will be the death of it if not done on time (every 60k/4 years.) 189k isn't all that high for an E30, but just make sure that the little things are done.

Also make sure no one ran the crap out of it. Listen for any strange knocks. My 325i that I bought only had 160k and has a horrible rod knock. But I got the car for 1/4th of what you're about to pay.

Link is removed.
There was a fairly clean ix for sale on a forum not too long ago for $1500, but by the time I got ask for pics of the 2 small rust areas, it was sold. :9 There's a really nasty Touring I saw for sale for $2500 but it's rough, really rough. For a decent ix, people will easily pay $4k. |
