Z3 Steering column squeak frustrations

Hello, I've searched the forum & tried almost everything but I can't get the high pitched squeak out of my steering wheel. I removed the wheel & found that the squeak is from the column & not to do with anything on or in the wheel itself. I'm down to the shaft but can't remove the ring clip since I don't have the tool for that to get to the bearing. Is that most likely where the squeak is originating from? I drowned it with oil & lithium spray lube to no affect. What now???

Thanks!

Well, I got the ring clip thingy off & took out another spacer & there is a black plastic round thing in there that I can't get out. I went ahead & drowned it with more oil inside & still no change at all in the squeak. This is going to kill me

So I thought I would just give up & put it back together...Wrong. I guess you can't get the snap ring thing back on without a steering wheel puller? I was really hoping to have this stupid squeak fixed before tomorrow so my wife could drive it to work but it looks like she'll be using my car.

A slight squeak was detected in my 01's wheel while still under warranty. It was the slip ring itself that was replaced.

It started squeaking again, but usually only when rotating the wheel a full turn or more.

I'm pretty sure I can live with it.

I find that wax is better than oil for plastic squeaks.

Thanks for the replies. I just couldn't get far enough in there to wax anything so I squirted a bunch of oil & lithium spray grease in there. I couldn't get any farther than some black plastic thing that I had no idea what it was so I just left it alone rather than breaking something. My wife says it's a lot better but I think she might just be trying to make me feel better
