After engine swap = Turn Key but no crank

1998 Bmw 740 IL

I pulled my ruined 4.4 out and installed a good 4.4 that I had in another car of mine.

Wiring harness = original

computers= original

Battery is new = Voltage is good to fuse box.

No blown fuses

Starter will crank engine when solenoid is crossed....

Am I battling something with the onboard anti-theft device????

Not sure but I know everything is hooked up properly....not my first engine swap.

Any ideas / similar experiences??

Thank you in advance

JH

I found the problem

I found the problem

The computer components are not fool proof when you connect the wiring harness.....

There are connectors that will easily plug into spots where they are not meant to be.

I had two harnesses connections swapped. Once corrected the car was fine.

The very important item I overlooked was color coding. ya gotta have the blue connections in the blue box.....gotta have the black connections in the black box...

I guess I should have known but I assumed there was only ONE way any of the connections would successfully latch....not so
