When is X3 actually deliverable?

I've got different dealers telling me different things.

One says you can't buy one until 1/22 and another is trying to get me to come in tomorrow to close on one.

Different dealerships have different allocations. You should be able to put down a deposit at ANY dealership right now. How long it takes to get in will differ from place to place. I placed my order two weeks ago and am scheduled to take delivery at the end of the month.

So, the dealership that wants you to "close on one" tomorrow...do they have the car on their lot? Because you can't deal with financing until the car is there.

Yes, they have it on the lot.

Is that the color combo you want? Normally, Demo model is either white or jet black with pretty loaded.

Some dealers can change some of their orders before it enters production. Ask dealer if they can do that. You might have to put down deposit. They might want to run your credit score.

One dealer told me you can lock financing up to 60 days.

I know Richmond BMW says their next shipment of X3s for delivery mid- to late-Jan is already sold (deposits given from customers). I don't know about the relative size of dealers in the Tidewater area, but it's possible to get an order in by the end of the month or early February. This means NOT dealer lot inventory, but an actual order/config to your specs.

Like others mentioned, speed depends on the dealer's allocation spots, and whether they can change any. Allocations can be changed up until it enters production.

BMW USA has dictated that no deliveries take place until 22 Jan, some dealers could cheat I suppose but that is the official company policy.

X3 35i ordered Dec. 10: Still "On Order" according to the production number. Dealer CA says "delivery "On or about Feb. 17" Not holding my breath!
Also, both demos (a loaded 35i and a base 28i) that this dealer had were sold during the first week of January - well before Jan. 22.

Mike185,

I do that every other day. The automated voice says: "Your vehicle is scheduled for production with no confirmed date". She does have a nice voice and I think we're developing a relationship!

Trying to be patient. Ordered mine on 12/7. Still listed as "in order" on bmwusa.com. Hopefully it goes into production soon.

Although those of us who are patiently waiting may not believe it, X3's actually do exist and are being driven in the real world. I actually viewed one of those rare beasts (a white 35i) being driven by a very attractive blond lady in New York city on Jan 16th whipping around the corner of 46th Street and 8th Ave.

Geez, If that's your car, what was it doing in NYC and who was the elegant blond behind the wheel? I read the Options List at least 6 times before placing my order and didn't see any box to check for THAT option, not that I likely could afford it anyway!

How do you like your X3 so far? Enough acceleration? Any problem passing cars?

order delays

I ordered mine Jan 19th, dealer says that I won't get it until in about 2 MONTHS, end of March... that's VERY long for a program that encourages you to custom order with a promise of fast deliver... :-(

It's a brand new plant and a new system of ordering. Even the dealers don't know what's really going on. I received a phone call from my CA today (Jan. 25) who said they expected to have a production date "in a week to 10 days". Later in the day I checked the BMW NA "My BMW" web-page, and my production number finally changed from "on order" to "scheduled for production". I then immediately phoned the BMW NA info line and the automated lady's voice on the phone said "your vehicle is IN PRODUCTION and will be completed on Feb. 2". With the expected shipping transit delay, that means it will be at my BMW dealership on Feb. 10. That's exactly 8-weeks from when I placed the order.

I'll bet that by mid-summer it will be down to 4 weeks or less.

UPDATE: The dealer called on Sat. Feb. 5 to tell me the car arrived. Since it's Saturday, they can't check and prep. the car, so I have to wait until Monday afternoon (2/07) to pick it up. I don't consider 7-1/2 weeks to be too bad for a custom order, especially since I picked a lot of individual options instead of the "packages".

If you think March is bad, folks in Germany have ordered their cars and their delivery estimate is July/August at this time for the xDrive20d and 30d.
