Its a shame they couldn't have had this before hand b/c I would have ordered it...no chance now that my X3 is built. I'd rather use the hitch for my bike rack than the roof but unless the hitch setup after the fact is in the 500-600 range no way I do it

My problem is BMW has been saying that since I took delivery in December. I have not been able to find anyone who can commit to when!

SRQBUZ -
You are the closest to Atlanta of anyone on this thread. Have you thought about making the run to Atlanta to let execu hitch fit one to your vehicle and thus break the logjam? I recall them telling me that the hitch is free if yours is the first one. $700-$800 seems like a pretty good incentive to me. If you want more to cover expenses, we can probably syndicate your trip here at Bimmerfest. - M5driver |

I did think about it. However, they got two from the local dealer (customer cars I think) and the design/parts & testing are now done and can be ordered. The pricing they gave me was 770 for the automated system, 610 for the manual, 50 for the tow plate with 2" or 1&7/8 tow ball, and 35 for shipping. I checked with my local Hitch House on Friday and they estimate the install at about 150 -180. If you need the 2" adaptor for existing accessories, it's another 69. It all ends up at about $1,100 installed so it's not cheap. They say it's much more substantial and the electronics are microprocessor controlled so there is no chance of any interference back to the car's electronics. I'll probably go ahead and order one as I don't want to wait for BMW and their price will probably be just as high when it's finally available. Good luck on your end.

I got a call from my dealer today saying BMW sent a notice to all dealers today saying their hitch has been delayed and won't be available until September.

It's a shame a hitch plug can't just be a stand alone option for those of us who would rather have a bike rack on the back of the car over having to mount it up on top. I suppose there is always the option of the bike racks that go on the rear glass, but I am always weary about their stability, and whether or not it will scratch my cars paint despite them having soft foam on the metal contact points since I will most likely accrue some dirt on it in when I hit a dirt road to go mountain biking; a little bit of shift by the bike rack in a turn, plus the weight of the bikes pushing down on the paint, and a bit of dirt thrown in = ugly scratch marks in my mind.

Give Ben a call at 678 400-0121. He has helped with the technical questions and I now have him in contact with my dealer to confirm there are no electrical issues. with the install.

I have been in contact with Execuhitch on some questions about the installation on my X3 35i M Sport, they said "It Should Not Be An Issue" but they have yet to install one on the M Sport version. I took some under-body photos for them and they say it looks similar to the standard version and that if any modifications were necessary they could take care of it, if I shipped it back to them for alterations. We will see. I will order one next week and then have a local shop do the installation. Thanks for the response though.

X3 trailer hitch (it is a ghost)
I got the same answer from my sales person too. I bought the X3 in February and we were told mid April, then it became mid June, as of today it is September.
Can you believe if Apple did the same thing with their computers accessories? I can't believe that BMW comes out with a Sports Utility Vehicle and not trailer hitch. They did the same thing with the media connector for the iPhone they say there is an iphone app for the BMWs you check with the dealership ... Ohhhh there is not one available!!! No idea when it is going to come out. Very frustrated here .... grrrr |

I just had the Execuhitch installed on my X3 by my local dealer. Even the dealer and their techs were impressed with the solid constructhion and the design of the hitch. When not in use ... you don't see a thing. They were very hesitant about doing the work, but the folks at Executhich worked with them and everything was as promised. It's a nice setup.
