New wheels (style 50)

The roads around tulsa are not wheel friendly, so I decided to switch out my 65s and go with a 16" wheel. these are OEM style 50s, not very common on these boards. They were purchased new in box. paid $562.75 for 5 wheels (Yep I even got a matching spare)
Let me know what you guys think about them.

Hope you guys enjoy.

also if anyone has more info on these or pics of other e39s w/ them please post!

They don't look bad at all. what size tire and brand?

I'm thinking of getting some 15" wheels, maybe even 16" for the wider tire selection, and putting 215mm for those times when I hit the hwy on summer vacations, spring break, christmas holidays etc...You just can't expect that every city you have to drive through is going to be paved like glass and will be 18" dia wheel friendly.

Thanks, I am not one to run with the crowd. I enjoy the style and simplicity to clean(65's are a PITA to clean) also they are something different. I heard these were only available to non U.S models (not sure about that... but maybe)

Tires are 225/55ZR16 (BMW recommended). Brand is Sunny SN3800. They are not a strong name brand, but for me(student w/ budget) will suffice. They seem to grip well and seem pretty fair. We'll see how long they last.

I think those are standard issue 525/528 wheels, even for us models. I like the clean and simple look. I have the 20 spoke wheels (std 530 wheels) with the 225/55/16s. I've got Continental EcoContact (or something like that) with two very due for replacing.

Also like you, I'm a student on a budget so I'm ordering some ExtremeContact DWS 1 at a time.

Thank you for not calling them "rims."

I have to ask... why does the car in your signature image look like it was lifted out of a comic book?

i don't think they are standard issue for 525/528. they seem to compliment face-lifted models more than preface-lift. so I doubt they were standard for a 528. They might have been a wheel option, but not the standard wheel. 528 standard wheel was style 29. At least that is the most commonly seen.

LOL. yeah that bothers me when ppl call them rims too. so many on here do it so frequently that i find myself identifying them as rims sometimes.

for those who are not in the "KNOW".
The "RIM" is the outer side of a wheel. Your "wheel" is the entire cast.

my sig image is a photo bucket edit. Here is the actual photo

+1... they were not standard on the 528, style 29s were. At leas that's what came on my car. And the 16s actually look pretty. I was expecting them to look smaller than they actually do.

I wouldn't bet the farm on it, I see them on E39s on Craigslist and eBay quite frequently...

^really could you post a pic? not to undermind you, but i have yet to see these wheels, even at meets. tried looking for images on bing and couldn't find them either.

i am just curious about info on these. I'm not trying to make it out as a one of a kind or anything i just really want to know if information relayed was factual.

I am almost positive that they are not standard, they might be optional on a sport. they are 16" which are different then the nomal 15" that were commonly on 528

After a bit of research:
According to this website (http://www.angelfire.com/biz7/bmwheelie/) for style 50 (http://www.angelfire.com/biz7/bmwhee.../style_050.htm) it shows it either was offered or fits 3 and 5s. For comparison, I looked up my wheel, style 82, (http://www.angelfire.com/biz7/bmwhee.../style_082.htm. And it shows only a 5 series fitting.

So, whether these charts mean you can buy in these sizes or that's the sizes they were offered befuddles me. I see them online pretty frequently though. Good looking wheel.

There is realoem.com, it shows a 525i (2003) can be had with style 50s and the site said it looks for parts that were available to the car, not just whatever fits. I'll keep looking for them on cars for sale.

cool thanks. well, i did find out some info. style 50 has been offered since 12/90 and was available since 9/95 for e39. They were offered on non-M e36, non-M e46, and e39 (M designation not specified) although probably not desired for ///M model since they are 16" non-staggered fitment.

the sizes offered for the e36 and e46 will not fit the e39 since the offset is different and the hub bore is different (not specified, but is common knowledge in the e39 section)

yeah it shows up on the 540 as well. it doesn't specify it to any particular model, so most likely it was a wheel option on sales brochure.
