1987 325iS value question

Does this car look like it's worth $4400?
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb

NADA classic guide says:
*******>********>
Low
Retail
Average
Retail
High
Retail

*******>********>
$3,025$3,650 $4,875

KBB only goes back to 1991 and shows this:
******* done5="67" done1="67">********>
Condition Value
Excellent
$1,675
Good
$1,475
Fair
$1,000

I'm not terribly familiar with the E30, so I'm not sure if this price is too high for this car. (Although I suspect it is.)

The car looks nice enough from the pictures, but I worry about the "runs a little rough and needs a tune up" comment. And there's no mention about the timing belt or cooling system maintenance being done, not to mention suspension bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, etc...

It's got those stupid ebay tails on it and what looks like a MOMO imitation wheel. Aftermarket seats look good but are not the factory sports. I would say he is a $3,500-$4K car. $4,400 is a no go though, and with a poor running condition I would say $2,500-$3K. If it needs a t belt it's a piece of cake for you. If you can break down a 1911 and a M16 you can do this blindfolded.

Thanks for the input SWISS. I was thinking 3 - 3.5k range, depending on how poorly it runs and the condition of the suspension. 1911 is one of my favorite toys. ;-)

Yeah, I'm not sure what the seller means by "Euro-mod", but I'm pretty sure they didn't swap a Euro engine and transmission in it or there would be pictrues and more details...

Here is what sketches me out about that car: The pictures are taken from far away, and the list of upgrades he has are all common ebay parts, not to mention that he comes right out and calls it "mechanic special". I've had my car for quite a while and I've tried my share of ebay upgrades, and for the most part after a few years I've had to take them off and reinstall the stock parts because they either broke or the stock parts performed better. Also, the taillights are not euro or rare, they are pretty common and imo don't look very good. The guy seems either deceptive or uninformed in his description and is asking too much, so if it were me I would move on. But if you were absolutely set on buying it, I would offer 2k if the car had no rust, the body was straight, and the interior was in nice condition.

Excellent input, bimmerboy08. I am by no means dead set on that car. Actually, there is just enough suspicious information about it to make me wary, it's out in the middle of no where, and the price seems high even if it were in really good shape. I guess that's why it has been listed for quite a while. Considering all of that, I don't even know if it would be worth a trip to look at it.

Roll out there in the Z and pick the seller aprt into bits and peices then convince him your doing him a favor taking it off hiss hands for $1,700.

Explain how much it will cost to replace that ebay trash with OE equip. just to make it safe.

Here's a ~ $7500 - $8500 benchmark.

LOL. I like this plan. If the car is still available in a couple of weeks, once the weather, becomes a little more spring-like, I may have to get in touch with the seller.

Wow! That car is stunning! It's almost too perfect. I mean, I'd be afraid to drive it for fear of getting it dirty or [gasp] a rock chip. How many shows has that little beauty won?

Bought this new in CA - 1990, sold it in 2007 and regretted it every day since. I finally got in a better place financially and bought it back from the new owner last month. He is a BMW collector of sorts and was nice enough to sell it back for the same price. Only had a couple hundred miles on it since 2007. New battery, new tires, oil change and it was good to go.

Original paint except Hood & front bumper/valance. It has 23 years worth of scuffs, chips & touch ups but nothing major. Always a show stopper at CCA events. I have it insured for a stated value of $12,000, which is a bit excessive, but try to find an "is" in this condition!

Done a few things to it over the years too...

More like $5.5-$7K maybe. 141K pampered miles is still almost 150K. That devastates the value IMO as does one hairline crack in your dash. The difference between a 5K E30 and a $10K E30 are not much, impeccable interior, no cracks, tears, stains on anything. Under 75K preferbly about 50K, All service intervals performed at specified intervals including R-134-A A/C rerofit by authorized service entities. 100% all original paint and no previous body repair. In is or ix trim will fetch $7-10K. Everything else falls below that benchmark.

I don't mind saying, this car was a $7500 car when I sold it - in 2007.
Listed for $7500, got $7500 - in 4 days.

The last lachssilber 89 325is in fairly similar condition with more miles sold for $8800 on eBay. I offered the guy $7500 initially and it was declined. So, original, E30 "is" cars are rapidly approaching the $10K mark.

Things that make this car exceptional:

Original Monroney window sticker
One-owner (NY guy never transferred title) & garaged since new
The interior is impecable (no cracks anywhere)
Everything works as new
No leaks with complete maintenance history http://www.thesaylors.net/automobile...iceHistory.htm

I consistently get several emails every month asking if the car is for sale. This is the E30 everyone's looking for and I'm glad I have it back!

A $12.5K benchmark. Maybe unrealistic, but here it is...

12.5 k is too much in my opinion though. Not many e30s can fetch that much. But that car can fetch a pretty dollar. It was done very proper. Has a whole build thread on it.
