What's missing from this picture?

I noticed this empty space to the right of the screwdriver. Dealer CA (not my CA but might as well be) says it is something to do with the European spec and anyway for gas engines, and mine being a D is going to be empty for sure.

Just verifying the story.... true?

Just went out and looked at mine, empty, too.

It's for the wheel lock key, if you buy wheel locks.

What is this "buy"? My dealer always includes the wheel locks - don't they all do that?

The safety orange plastic thing is the transmission release tool, right? Does anyone carry a tow strap at all times?

Tow strap, jumper cables and work gloves. POlus a telescoping shovel in the winter, or when we are going onto the 4wd beach.

wheel lock key in my car...

I bought the wheel locks after delivery for something over $60. Not included with the car or by dealer.

Will check tomorrow if the key fits the space.

I have a BMW LED Flash Light in there!!

Wheel lock is complementary, as the floormats are. No extra charge.

Safety orange plastic thing is the e-brake release.

No wheel lock holder here either.. to be honest, though.. those are just a pain. I don't live anywhere where I'd be worried about my wheels coming up missing - but I haven't heard of someone getting hi-jacked for wheels in a LONG time.

You are better off without them whether you have to pay for it or not.

Worthless or not, I've already purchased them. Which makes me mad that it is complimentary. The CA made a big deal of giving me floor mats (I had to ask), like it was a big secret and favor he was doing me (actually shushed me when I inquired about them on the showroom floor). That was before I was active on this forum of course. And when I went to parts to buy the wheel locks and told them my X5 was 3 days old, no one said they should have come with the car.

Can anyone say this with absolute certainty? That the wheel locks ***SHOULD*** come with the car? I see already that some didn't get them. If this is an official BMW position I'm going to raise a stink with this so-called CA.

Both my cars here in Canada came with wheel locks. My key was also "missing" in the tool box space. Check the glove box as mine was in there for the X5 and in the "tool box" for my 325i.

I live in a very safe neighbourhood but a few years back I saw in early morning a MB down the road on a driveway on a plie of bricks and 2x4's. After that they stopped parking their cars in the garage!!

I think they are useful to deter anyone taking your rims/tires, no matter where you live.

Wheel locks do not come with the car in the U.S. as advertised by BMW NA. Apparently some dealers throw them in on their own. just as some dealers provide floor mats, and others do not.

It's an individual dealer thing.
