I'm trying to find out if there was a way to install rear fog light on the X5 so that it can be legal to drive in Europe. Also, how to go about changing the radio station frequency from ODD nubers to Even.

It can not be done. I was able to activate my rear fogs on my 3 but have tried for over a year on my X5.

...only if you ask BMW.
In another post , we talked about the coding for TMC etc., while the guy was working on programming my TMC etc., he mentioned the rear fog light. I told him that it is almost impossible, lots of work, cabling etc. etc.! He just laughed and said that all I need is the modified switch near the light switch and one update. That's it. According to him, all wires etc. are in place and they just didn't put the switch into it.
No, I haven't done it myself since the technical control here was complaining but completed my papers anyhow. So until 2012, I'm good to go.
But, again, the guy from car-coding.de said it can be done and he offered it...
Guess I'll have to look into that in 2012.

I have a 2010 X5. The rear fog lights are already installed its just a switch that is needed. I have had my X5 re-coded so the rear fogs light up when I hit the brakes. It makes for superbly bright brake lights which have their pluses and minuses...

It depends. There are many DIYs on this issue (i.e search Blue Dragons DIY).

Some say, you need the switch with the button, the wire to the switch and a module, and the coding.

Some say, you need to use the old switch, pop the lego piece that should represent the rear fogs, and you should be golden

Some say you need only the switch

Some say you need only the coding.

All i Know is i need to stop saying SOME SAY!

Did it yesterday.

blue dragon guide was really helpful (Thanks a lot!). Had some hard time to take trim panel off to access FRM but otherwise was easy upgrade. I bought switch from Europe used along with two bushing contacts with wires already and it was more then enough.

No issues for me, just disconnect and connect it back (negative). I had 4x4 sign and to take that off I turned steering wheel all way to the right and back to the left.

No check engine lights. All settings stayed, except time.

As for battery - undo few screws that holds plastic cover in the trunk (where tools are), undo bolt for negative holder, take it away.

I've also done rear fog install following our member's instructions. Very comprehensive indeed, no extra steps are needed! For me the most difficult part was to pull lower door trim, of course without applying brute force.

Note: buy 2 of those pre-made cables that are mentioned in this thread and splice them together - fast and easy and cable is long enough!
