Rear wiper blade
Hi!
Does anyone know what is the size of the rear wiper blade for an E83? Any recommendations for a brand/model? Thanks a lot! |

Did you know-
Timely post as I was just investigating this myself and much to my amazement I discovered that apparently BMW has a front windshield design department and a rear windshield design department. And typical of German engineering behavior the two are NOT allowed to talk or collaborate amongst each other. This is to cause confusion and aggravation for their customers and raise dealer revenue. Don't think they are stupid!
I just replaced my fronts with the PIAA ones and they are really really nice and smooth operating. And about half what the dealer will charge. I hope they will last longer than the dealer inserts which must be aged before sending to the dealer so that they have built in obsolescence. Anyway, in my typical thriftiness I thought I would cut one of the front inserts I removed and use it on the rear wiper since it does not see much action hanging out back there where is does. Much to my awe I discovered that the rear is slightly, ever so slightly a different width so that this is not possible. Now, who I ask, would even think to make the rear wiper ever so slightly different in width from the fronts. And, how I might ask, did this happen. See the two department explanation above. Is there a PIAA insert for the rear????

In the US, BMW uses Trico wiper blades as the replacements and this includes the break-to-fit inserts. That's what I use for the rear, basically snapped off the segment to the right length, cut the rubber insert, and put it in the rear. The same can be used for the front but I don't like the quality so I bought the Valeo SWF (which were OEM from the factory) wiper blades off Amazon. Have been using them for year and a half and they still work great.

This won't help the OP but for folks in North America, Rockauto is a great source for these.
Rear: BOSCH Part # 3397004559 - $11 Front set: BOSCH Part # 3397118423 - $17.50 for the pair Both are OEM style parts - driver's side wiper has the spoiler feature, rear is partially enclosed.. just like the originals. While you're there, order an activated carbon cabin filter ($17, DENSO Part # 4542005) & air filter ($10, MAHLE Part # LX343) too. |
