Brake and drive control systems Malfunction!! HELP!

Pulling into the turning lane this morning to work going about 35 MPH hitting the brakes a normal amount and i hear "ding" look and my dash lights up like a christmas tree... Then look at the nav screen and get "Braking / Driving" message... details: "Brake and drive control systems malfunction! Reducted braking and driving stability. Avoid hard braking"

Anyone had this issue? Any idea wahts wrong? How serious is it? Thankfully i am still under warranty.

I have not driven more then 15mph since as i was already at work... I dont have time to get to the dealership for two days, is it safe to drive?

See pictures attached...

I don't have time to upload the pic but when i got out of work, i went to the service control messages and the full list was:

Driving stability! drive moderately
DBC malfunction! Drive carefully(Whats DBC?)
start-off assistance inactive!

After driving about 15 feet they all went out and went back to normal... Something must be wrong though, the computer should have recorded this no? I want to bring it in to get checked out but don't want them to say "nothing is wrong." Should I wait for the problem to appear again? I'm only under warranty for another 6 months then CPO kicks in which I'm not sure would cover this or not.

Thanks!

Something happened to trigger the message. That event will be stored in the cars DME (master computer system). The code(s) will be accessible by the technician. Depending on what the codes say, parts will be replaced. You definitely want to be making a trip to the dealer ASAP. Brake systems are not something to f*ck around with. It could be as simple as one or more of the wheel sensors failing, but in an emergency, the failed wheel sensor will not allow the ABS/DSC system to work as it is supposed to. Worst case, that failure could cost you your life (or the life of whomever was driving the car at the time the system was needed and failed).

Picture this:

You're driving maybe 70 mph, no problem with the car. Traffic accordions, causing you to brake hard. It doesn't stop at all as you discover your brakes did indeed have a problem.

Your insurance company finds you drove a couple of days and many miles after being notified by your ride that brakes malfunctioned.

Are we ready for service now?

Rent a car!

All the codes disappeared, no issues at all today. I still plan to bring it in ASAP. My drive to work is 5 miles round trip at 45 mph tops so i should be okay for a day or two.

Will keep updated on status when i get more info.

So the verdict was "DSC HYDRO UNIT FAILED" So they replaced hydro unit... Whatever that means ? (BMW N00b)

They also got me good for 2 new rear michelin tires, alignment, and the misc charges that come with that almost 1200$ out of control.

Well, the DSC Hydro unit is the device that controls which brakes get applied in what sequence based on instruction from the dynamic stability control (DSC) computer. It is one of the primary safety systems on the car. Hit a patch of water or ice and the only thing standing between your car being a total wreck and not is the DSC computer and the hydraulic unit.

Cliff-Notes version is that it was a good thing to bring the car into the dealer.

Vindication is mine.

Good deal Mineo - an inexpensive fix given the alternative!
