40/60 vs 40/20/40 Back Seat Split?

So - what do you think? Is that small center section worth getting? I can see throwing skis (for those who ski) or long slender "stuff" through there with two people sitting in the back ---- or just do the 60/40 standard split if you don't have to take 3 people along. I dunno - think it's worth having? (I'm not getting the cold package)

I think so--you will never know when you have something long (fishing poles, skis, wood) that you would like to use this for.

I've never had it and have never felt like I needed it.

Have it.
Love it.
The advantage of the 40/20/60 is that you can still have two comfortable rear seat occupants and carry long, thin items if you need to. With the 60/40 seat, you loose one of the side seat positions if you are only carrying a pair of skis or a single fishing pole forcing the second rear occupant into the (very poor) center position.

Depends how often you have 4 people in the car and have a need to carry long narrow objects like skis, fishing poles, ladders, crutches, etc... Is that worth an add'l $200? Another option is to get a roof rack - which, by the way, will cost more than the $250 roof rail option, as you will need to buy the cross rails, as well.

Agreed! Like all options in life, it's only worth what it's worth to YOU.
"you pays yer money, and you makes yer choice."
For me it's $200 well spent, for someone else it's money wasted. At least BMW gives you the option (unless you live in Canada).

It is obtainable in Canada as a special order item. This seat option is one of the reasons I bought the X3.
