Hello, I just bought a 2002 e53 4.4i Sport w/Premium and Cold Weather pkgs. I have the sport seats and those adjust and work perfectly but the steering wheel adjustment doesn't work at all. I checked the fuses and they are fine. I read that the steering wheel adjustment is tied to the seat adjustment but I don't know how to diagnose the problem since the seats adjust just fine.
I also was told in another post that I could try to "reset" the wheel adjustment by putting the key in the ignition, turning it to the stop before actually starting the vehicle, moving the control to move the steering wheel. Turning the key off and then starting the vehicle. This unfortunately didn't work after many tries. I have ordered a Bentley Publishing e53 repair manual but it won't be here for at least a week. I would appreciate any help and if possible pictures of the areas I should troubleshoot. Thanks! |

Ok so I just bought a 2004 X5 4.4. I had the same problem. If it is a module it's a little pricey! But in regards to your post. I checked my fuses (nothing wrong) and my seats adjusted perfectly fine. But with these systems the seats are linked to the memory control. Test the controls. Put the seat in one pos. Then hold the M button and press the one. This will set your seat memory on #1. then move the seat to another position and press the #1 button. If the seat moves I'm sorry this isn't gonna help I think. If your memory isn't working you just have to replace that switch panel. I have a buddy in california thats a BMW mechanic. Cost me 150$. hope this helps. I tested it and replaced the part and now it works perfect! Good luck!
