Pics from my Sirius install (56K warning!)

Just finished installing the BMW Sirius receiver in my '04 330cic (no nav, no CD changer).
Took about an hour and sounds great. I was very relived that the car was prewired as
I am not a big fan of tearing up my interior!

First, the parts:

1. Terk antenna (SIR3) $49 from Ultimate Electronics
2. Terk splitter (SIR-SP) $19 from Ultimate Electronics
3. BMW install kit (84 11 0 302 904) $60 from Circle BMW
4. BMW Sirius receiver (84 11 0 141 981) $239 from Circle BMW
5. BMW extension cable (84 11 0 150 531) $12 from Circle BMW

All of the work was done in the trunk. Only had to go into the car to turn the
radio on for activation!

First, remove the cover over spare tire and then pop off the 2 clips shown (just a screwdriver
underneath will pry 'em up, then a pair of pliers pulls 'em off):

Locate the prewiring (it will be wrapped up in velcro):

Unwrap the prewiring (cut the black tape and unwrap the velcro). There are 2 connectors
inside. Plug the extension wire into these 2 connectors (they are different so you
won't use the wrong ones):

Here is everything plugged into the Sirius receiver. The 2 wires on the left are from the
extension cable and the two on the right are from the Terk splitter.

Now, go to the back of the trunk where the subwoofer door sits. Peel back the covering on
the left side and slide the 3 clip nuts from the install kit:

Next, return the covering to its original spot and locate (as best you can) the clip
nuts you just installed. Cut holes in the covering so that the clip nuts are now
visible

Attach the bracket that comes with the kit to the receiver and then attach the bracket
to the clip nuts you installed above. To be sure that the Terk splitter connections cleared
the convertible top, I installed the bracket UPSIDE DOWN. This way, the connections point
down rather than up.

Find a nice spot for the antenna I put mine in the center of the trunk lid, turn on
the radio, activate and you are all done. Enjoy!

Does your 2004cic have BMW assist? My dealer told me that sirius at the present time is not compatible with BMW Assist. I was just wondering if they were correct. I have gotten bad information from them before.

Nope, I do not have BMW Assist and I do not have Nav.

I believe they are correct, BMW assist and Sirius don't play well together.

Circle's website says that you need the following part for the convertible. Is this true, and what does it do?
1.0m Power/Audio Cable 84 11 0 150 531 $15.50 $12.40

Also, do you have any pics of the antenna on the trunk. Is the Terk one smaller than the BMW trunk antenna?

Did you end up needing the extension cable? Is this something to do with convertible? I just ordered my sirius reciever from circle. Also the install kit, (probably a waste of money, but I don't want to run into any hangups). Ordered the Terk antenna and splitter from Crutchfield, but I didn't order an extension cable. Didn't know I needed one. Do I?

Yes you will need the cable (goes from the prewire connector to the reciever). And I believe the Terk antenna is smaller (that's the one I used).

Depending on where you mount the receiver you my need the extension cable. Since I mounted mine towards the back of the trunk, I needed it.

OK, things are not going well. Yes, I do need the extenstion cable. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with extending anything. It's actually an adapter, apparently, because there is no six pin connector to connect to the receiver. Is this what the extension cable does? I should have read this thread again before I tore appart my trunk, but I just got back from out of town for a week and want to get started. Now I'm going to have to put the trunk back together and wait for an extenstion cable from circle BMW. Other problem; The Terk antenna splitter has one white connector, which fits into the white connector on the receiver, and one olive green connector which DOES NOT fit the blue connection on the receiver. The ridge/slot pattern does not match. Did Crutchfield send me the wrong splitter. It looks like there is only one, but it does not fit. Am I missing something?

A. You may have found the wrong cable. Keep checking on the left side.

B. You have the correct splitter. Need to remove the olive green cover.

Done. There was a smaller bundle hiding back there behind the amps. And the olive green connector came off no problem. Thanks for the help.

Thats a beautiful thing!! This is EXACTLY the solution I have been after!
My question is will the same Sirius receiver (from Circle BMW) work out with my system? I have the factory Harmon Kardon system with the 6-Disc CD changer in the trunk (Tape player in the deck). if it comes down to a choice between the CD changer or Sirius, the CD player gets the axe! But it would be nice to keep them both. so you are saying that the BMW headunit will recognize the new Sirius receiver just like that?

Part 2: Can I paint the Sirius antenna to match (topaz blue) without fouling up the reception?

Thanks for any help!!

Not sure if the Sirius uses the same line as your changer or not...check w/Circle BMW before ordering.

I've heard that painting the antenna cuts down on reception, but I have no idea how much.

I agree, Sirius sure beats the CD changer.

Terk Splitter Not Needed for 2005 330CiC Install

Followed the instructions in this post and install was done in less than an hour on my 2005 330 CiC. Thanks for the detailed instructions and photos!

One difference: Instead of BMW Sirius receiver (84 11 0 141 981), I used BMW Sirius receiver (65 12 0 398 140) which supercedes the previous receiver. One nice thing about this receiver is that you DO NOT need the Terk splitter. The mini Terk antenna plugs directly into the receiver.

Nice pictures!!

My Sirius kit is OTW from Pacific BMW.

Supposedly P/N: 51-47-8-236-561 is a new trim panel to cover the new Sirius box and wiring so it's not hanging out in the trunk where it could get snagged.

We'll know for certain when it shows up this week.

The Sirius Radio Option DOES use the same line as your CD changer, however, no matter. If you want both devices in your car you will need BMW Part No. 84-11-0-150-526. Here's the deal. You unplug your factory CD changer, install the Sirius Radio Option as instructed, using the factory cable that you had the CD Changer plugged into. THEN, you plug the above mentioned Y-Cable (Part No. 84-11-0-150-526) into the Sirius Receiver and then the other end into the CD Changer - basically the cable allows for a "pass-thru" connection of the CD Changer. Make sense? I might add, depending on who you ask, they may tell you that you cannot have BOTH CD Changer and Sirius Radio Option - I know my dealer told me that - it was only through this forum that I discovered the dealer was wrong and totally clueless...

Anyway, if you have more questions just ask. I have an '05 330i with the Alpine MP3 CD Changer, the factory Sirius Radio Option and the factory AUX input - all installed myself and working perfectly.

Do you have a picture of your finished installation? I am curious to see where it all ends up in a non-convertable.
thanks!

I installed my Sirius kit from Pacific BMW tonight in about an hour in my M3 Cabrio. I just received it after about a month wait on the back order for the tuner box.

Some slight differences:

1. The new BMW OEM part is the small antenna, it's no longer the mouse sized one, and it only has (1) plug. The box still ships with adapter to adapt the new single wire antenna to the old dual wire Sirius box. (yea, old Sirius box)

2. The current shipping BMW Sirius tuner has a single antenna input, not the dual one. It no longer carries the Alpine product logo.

3. I had to mount it in it's bracket upside down so the single feed antenna would clear.

4. The trunk panel p/n I mentioned above does in fact cover and hide the Sirius tuner so it is not hanging out in the trunk. It is hidden behind a formed section in the front trunk "cover"/carpet.

Super easy install. 2 minutes to activate and

And the trunk

How did you make this look so clean?

Ozona,
1. How much was the trunk panel P/N: 51-47-8-236-561 ?
2. How did you hide and feed the antenna wire? Is your antenna mounted on the trunk lid or is it mounted on your 'package shelf'?

I've installed the same in my 2005 330CiC but will admit that that my wiring is a tad messy and am wondering how I can improve my installation...

Thx,
PHXEd

Gonna give it a shot this weekend---

This thread is a lifesaver-- thanks to all. Armed with the parts list I contacted my sales guy and they matched the Circle BMW prices.

My car has Assist, so it has the larger trim panel to hide the Assist box. But, there appears to be enough fudge room there to attach the Sirius tuner right onto the Assist box with some zip ties or something, with perhaps a couple of those stick on felt pads to provide a small space in between. My Sirius box is the newer one and looks thinner than the one pictured here.

Any hints on how to route the antenna wire, I didn't really see much mention of that here. I'm gonna go camp out in the trunk this weekend, thanks again for this great info and taking the time to post the pix.

Here is the solution with Assist on convertible--

My car has Assist but no NAV or CD Changer. Due to having the Assist, I have the larger trim panel shown above already installed. I was able to attach the tuner right on top of the Assist using Velcro tape. Works great, the hardest part was routing the antenna wire but my salesman printed BMW's installation instuctions which was a great help. Total time was less than 2 hours.

The first pic shows the Assist box in the spot where the Sirius would normally go, with trim panel pulled back, note the Velcro tape attached.

The second one shows the Sirius box mounted to the Assist, note the connections are turned up to allow clearance.

And finally, with the trim panel reinstalled. No evidence the Sirius has been added.

If anyone wants the details of how to route the antenna wire, let me know and I will see if I can scan it in or get it to you somehow.

Thanks again for all the help and great pix in this thread. One of these days I will figure out how to imbed the pix without having to add links.
